Pakistan’s legal system has taken a serious turn with the registration of an FIR against Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, and around 400 other individuals. The charges stem from a protest held outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi and are filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Police sources indicate the protest turned violent, leading to multiple arrests and allegations of conspiracy and attacks against security personnel.
The criminal case targets 35 named individuals, including Aleema Khan and other known PTI figures like Qasim Khan and Naeem Haider Panjotha, with an additional 400 protesters listed as unidentified. The FIR encompasses charges of criminal conspiracy to wage war against the state, a grave accusation. According to the report, 14 protesters were arrested during the demonstration and subsequently presented before an anti-terrorism court. They face charges for allegedly violating Section 144 and assaulting police officers on duty.
Authorities claim the demonstration involved shouting slogans against the government and state institutions, blocking roads, and inciting party workers. The FIR details that protesters allegedly pelted stones and glass bottles at police officers. This incident underscores the ongoing political tensions and the security challenges associated with the imprisonment of Imran Khan, with authorities reportedly considering moving him to a different facility due to persistent protests outside Adiala Jail.
