    Quordle History

Freddie Meyer created Quordle in 2022, inspired by Wordle and Dordle. Merriam-Webster acquired the game in January 2023.

In the early stages, engineer David Mah developed the prototype of Quordle. Later, Freddie Meyer took Mah’s prototype and made adjustments to the code.

He drew inspiration from Dordle, another variation of Wordle, where players solve two grids simultaneously. Quordle was then launched in February 2022, and within just a few weeks, it quickly attracted one million players.

Merriam-Webster acquired Quordle in January 2023 for an undisclosed sum. Greg Barlow, the company’s president, said the game was “a favourite” among employees and added that it would be “a great addition” to the site’s game selection.
