New Delhi, February 12 – Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has called on India’s business leaders to aggressively expand into new markets, enhance product quality, and sharpen their competitive edge. This push comes as the country seeks to fully capitalize on recently inked trade agreements that promise to unlock vast opportunities.
In a high-level meeting with 35 Export Promotion Councils (EPCs) and key industry bodies, Goyal emphasized the need to leverage Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with developed nations. ‘These pacts are game-changers,’ he stated, highlighting how they would create jobs, boost goods and services exports, and integrate more Indians into the global economy.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India has secured deals that benefit farmers, workers, professionals, artisans, and MSMEs. Goyal pointed out protections for agriculture and dairy sectors, alongside new avenues for traditional medicine and yoga on the world stage.
‘India’s trading legacy dates back millennia,’ Goyal remarked. ‘These agreements accelerate our vision of a Viksit Bharat while embodying PM Modi’s mantra of Vikas bhi, Virasat bhi – development with heritage.’
Industry representatives expressed gratitude for breakthroughs with the UK, EU, and US. A major relief: the US order set for February 6, 2026, scraps an extra 25% tariff on Indian goods, revitalizing exports to America’s massive market.
Discussions also covered the Export Promotion Mission’s progress, praising government initiatives like interest subventions on export credit, MSME guarantees, and targeted support for emerging markets. As tariffs lift and doors open, Indian exporters stand poised for a renaissance.
