New Delhi, January 29 – In a major push towards digital India, the government has unveiled a groundbreaking Aadhaar mobile app designed to streamline identity verification. This innovative tool allows users to store and share their digital identity directly from their smartphones, eliminating the need for physical Aadhaar cards or photocopies.

The app’s core strength lies in its selective data-sharing feature. Users can now share only the specific details required for a transaction, such as name or age, making processes at airports, hotels, hospitals, and service platforms quicker and more secure. Imagine checking into a hotel by simply scanning a QR code – no paperwork hassles.

Key features include offline QR code verification, face authentication for in-person confirmations, and age verification for services like movie ticket bookings. It’s tailored for diverse scenarios: hotel check-ins, hospital visitor entries, gig worker authentications, and more.

Security is paramount. Users can lock or unlock their biometric data with one tap, track authentication history, and manage up to five family profiles under the ‘One Family-One App’ initiative. Updating the registered mobile number is now possible without visiting a center, with more updates promised soon.

Crucially, verifying agencies cannot store the Aadhaar number; only digitally signed, verified data is shared, aligning with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act. Developed by UIDAI and launched by Minister Jitin Prasada, this app marks a shift from paper to fully digital systems.

Electronics and IT Secretary S. Krishnan emphasized minimal data sharing, empowering users with control. UIDAI officials hail it as a game-changer, enabling customized QR codes for precise information sharing. This app isn’t just convenient – it’s a secure gateway to a paperless future.
