New Delhi, January 29 – In a major push towards digital India, the government has unveiled a groundbreaking new Aadhaar mobile app designed to streamline identity verification, making it faster, more secure, and incredibly user-friendly. This innovative tool allows citizens to store their digital identity right on their smartphones and share only the necessary details for any transaction, eliminating the hassle of carrying physical Aadhaar cards or photocopies.
Imagine checking into a hotel, boarding a flight, or visiting a hospital without fumbling for documents. The app enables quick verification via QR code scanning, even offline, perfect for high-traffic spots like airports and service counters. Users can selectively share minimal data – just what’s required for the task at hand – enhancing privacy while speeding up processes.
Key features include face verification for on-the-spot confirmation, age checks for movie tickets or restricted services, and tailored options for gig workers, service partners, and hospital attendants. Biometric data can be locked or unlocked with a single tap, and users gain full visibility into their authentication history.
The ‘One Family-One App’ functionality lets a single device manage up to five family profiles, simplifying life for households. Updating the registered mobile number is now possible directly from the app, reducing trips to banks or enrollment centers. Future updates promise even more self-service options.
Privacy is paramount: verification agencies cannot store Aadhaar numbers; only digitally signed, verified data is shared, aligning perfectly with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act. Developed by UIDAI and launched by Minister Jitin Prasad, this app marks a pivotal shift from paper-based to fully digital identity systems.
Electronics and IT Secretary S. Krishnan emphasized how it promotes minimal data sharing, empowering users to control their information securely. UIDAI officials hailed it as a game-changer, allowing customized QR codes for precise, need-based info sharing. This app isn’t just convenient – it’s a secure gateway to a paperless future.
