New Delhi erupted with diplomatic energy on Thursday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi held key bilateral meetings with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof and Swiss President Guy Parmelin on the sidelines of the AI Impact Summit. These high-level discussions underscored India’s deepening ties with European partners, focusing on artificial intelligence, trade agreements, and counter-terrorism.
In his conversation with PM Schoof, Modi emphasized harnessing AI for economic and social transformation. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to swiftly implementing the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), exploring fresh avenues in technology and innovation collaboration between India and the Netherlands. They also pledged united action against terrorism, reinforcing shared democratic values.
India and the Netherlands boast robust bilateral relations, particularly in water management. Their strategic partnership covers flood control, clean water technologies, and knowledge exchange, proving vital for sustainable development in both nations.
Meanwhile, Modi’s meeting with President Parmelin delved into strengthening economic cooperation, including trade, investment, and tech innovation. A major highlight was accelerating the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA), effective from October 1, which opens markets in Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland to Indian exporters, industries, and service providers.
The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted expectations that these partnerships will boost technological collaboration, quality investments, and job creation, especially for the youth. As global challenges mount, these meetings signal India’s proactive role in shaping a tech-driven future with Europe.
