The Indian government’s recent legislative action is causing major disruption within the online gaming industry. The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, is now in effect, leading to the closure of several online money gaming platforms. The bill, passed by Parliament, seeks to regulate the industry by banning harmful platforms while promoting e-sports and social games. It also targets advertising and financial transactions tied to these games, effectively curbing online betting and gambling, including popular games such as poker and rummy, as well as fantasy sports. Among the platforms that have ceased operations are WinZO, Mobile Premier League, Zupee, PokerBaazi, RummyCulture, Dream11, A23 Rummy, A23 Poker, and Probo. This regulatory shift is set to significantly impact the $3.8 billion gaming sector in India, potentially leading to market adjustments and investment changes.
