New Delhi erupted in celebration as India clinched a Guinness World Record for the most pledges received in 24 hours for an AI responsibility campaign. Union Minister of Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, made the triumphant announcement at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 held at Bharat Mandapam.
The remarkable feat saw 250,946 valid pledges collected between February 16-17, 2026, under the nationwide ‘AI Responsibility Pledge’ initiative. Launched by the India AI Mission in partnership with Intel India, the campaign invited citizens to commit to ethical, inclusive, and responsible AI use via the dedicated portal aipledge.indiaai.gov.in.
Vaishnaw highlighted the overwhelming public response, far surpassing the initial target of 5,000 pledges. ‘This is the direction our nation must take—towards a future where AI is embraced responsibly,’ he declared, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for inspiring youth to prioritize ethical AI adoption.
Participants committing to principles like data privacy, accountability, transparency, and combating misinformation received digital badges and access to AI learning pathways. Guinness World Records adjudicators officially verified the record during the summit, attended by global leaders, tech executives, researchers, and industry representatives.
The India AI Impact Summit 2026 serves as a global platform discussing AI’s role in inclusive development. This record-breaking participation underscores India’s growing leadership in responsible AI governance, setting a benchmark for the world. As the nation races ahead in AI innovation, such initiatives ensure technology serves humanity’s greater good, fostering trust and equity in digital transformation.
