According to the company’s latest insights, data analysis usage in India is nearly four times the worldwide benchmark, while coding with Codex clocks in at about three times higher.
Indian professionals and learners are pushing the boundaries of AI utility. They pose coding-related queries three times more frequently than the global norm and double the number of education-focused questions. This trend underscores a nation hungry for technological advancement.
Workplace integration is another standout. Around 35% of ChatGPT interactions in India tie directly to professional duties, surpassing the global 30% mark. Offices buzz with AI-assisted drafting, editing, technical troubleshooting, debugging, and productivity boosts.
Beyond the cubicle, personal use reveals a practical bent: 35% of messages seek actionable guidance, with 20% each devoted to general knowledge and writing tasks. This points to AI’s growing role in learning, decision-making, and individual efficiency.
OpenAI’s Chief Economist Ronnie Chatterjee highlighted the rapid pace: ‘AI adoption is accelerating so fast it’s hard to measure. Signals is our effort to ground discussions in real data, ensuring India’s AI debate relies on facts, not hype.’
Demographics paint a youthful picture. Users aged 18-24 send nearly half of all messages, while the 18-34 group accounts for 80% of consumer interactions. Advanced usage shines in coding and data analysis, especially from tech hubs like Telangana (top spot), followed by Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
India now boasts over 100 million weekly active ChatGPT users, making it the largest market outside the US and the fastest-growing for Codex. These trends signal not just mass adoption but sophisticated, value-driven AI engagement across the country.
