New Delhi is witnessing a revolutionary shift in public healthcare as India rolls out artificial intelligence across its government health services. This strategic integration aims to bridge the gap in doctor shortages and deliver superior medical care to millions.

The government has deployed AI tools in key programs like the National TB Elimination Program, National Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Program, and disease surveillance systems. Non-specialist health workers can now perform advanced diagnostics, leading to a remarkable 27% drop in severe TB cases. Over 4,500 timely disease outbreak alerts have been issued, preventing potential epidemics.

E-Sanjeevani, the telemedicine platform, has served more than 282 million consultations, with AI enhancing disease identification. AI systems are also monitoring malnutrition through innovative platforms. The scope extends beyond infectious diseases to cancer treatment, modernizing Ayurveda, and the National One Health Program.

India will host the Global South’s first International AI Summit from February 16-20 in New Delhi, drawing global leaders, policymakers, tech firms, and experts to discuss AI policies, research, industry, and public engagement.

Launched under the IndiaAI Mission approved in March 2024 with a Rs 10,371.92 crore budget, this initiative tackles national challenges. The IndiaAI Application Development Initiative fosters AI solutions for pressing issues, markedly improving healthcare quality, affordability, and reach to remote areas. Early disease detection, precise treatments, and better drug quality are now realities, transforming lives across the nation.
