The government has banned 43 OTT platforms that were found to be distributing content deemed obscene, violent, and culturally inappropriate. IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Lok Sabha about this measure. The IT Act 2000 and the IT Rules 2021 outline the regulations OTT platforms must follow. This includes adhering to guidelines to ensure that content aligns with legal standards, particularly prohibiting content that depicts nudity or violence. The government’s action underscores its commitment to regulate digital content.
