Google’s recent introduction of the Nano Banana image generation and editing model within its Gemini app is changing photo editing. The tool and its features have rapidly gained traction on social media. It allows users not only to generate photos, but also to edit them with professional-level precision. To help users leverage the power of Nano Banana, Google has released four essential tips.

According to Google’s Product Lead, Nicole Brichtova, this model represents a ‘giant quality leap’ in photo editing capabilities. The sophisticated tools previously only available to professionals are now accessible to ordinary users, fostering an environment of creativity.

A standout feature of Nano Banana is its ability to maintain the subject’s identity during editing. It consistently preserves the look and style of the subject, regardless of alterations to clothing, poses, or backgrounds. This is especially useful for photo series or character studies.

Nano Banana facilitates fine-grained editing, letting users modify specific elements like object color, shape, or position without affecting the entire image. Examples include changing the color of a sofa or removing an object from the scene.

The model is designed to be user-friendly, requiring only simple prompts to achieve impressive results. Users can transform photos using plain language, such as colorizing old black-and-white photos, converting sketches to realistic images, or merging multiple images into a single composite.

In addition to editing, Nano Banana also supports the development of image-based applications. Google has incorporated integrations with Canvas and AI Studio, giving developers the tools to build apps. The PictureMe app is a good example; users can upload their photos to see themselves styled in various looks like ’80s fashion or professional headshots.
