Google has introduced a new sharing feature within its Gemini AI platform that allows users to share their custom “Gems” (AI assistants). This functionality provides a convenient method for sharing AI tools with contacts, whether they are friends, family, or work colleagues. The sharing process is similar to Google Drive, making it easy to manage and distribute custom AI assistants. The following is a breakdown of this feature and how to use it.

With the new update, users gain the ability to share their custom “Gems.” The sharing mechanism works similarly to Google Drive. Users can find and select the “Share” option within the Gem manager.

This feature also gives users control over who can view, utilize, and edit their Gem. The benefit here is that instead of numerous individuals undertaking similar work, everyone can benefit from a single, shared “Gem.”

Google emphasizes that this new feature streamlines collaboration. For example, teams requiring a custom AI assistant can now collaborate using a shared “Gem” instead of each member developing their own. This also offers families a way to collaborate on tasks such as holiday planning or writing projects. This feature is valuable, especially when dealing with tasks that need to be repeated.

    To create your own Gem:

Go to the Google Gemini website and sign in using your Google account.
Find the “Gem manager” option and then click the “Create New Gem” option.
Provide a name and a set of instructions for your AI “Gem.”
    Once ready, click on “Save.”
You can then observe how your Gem responds to your prompts.

Gemini AI originated as “Gemini Advanced” last year, and came with several pre-made “Gems,” including tools for brainstorming, career guidance, editing, and coding assistance. Originally, it was only accessible to Gemini Advanced subscribers, but is now available to all users. Google made the feature universally accessible in March, integrating features like file upload capabilities to aid personalization. The recent popularity of the banana trend is also a feature of Gemini AI.
