A new policy by Emirates Airlines now restricts the usage of power banks on its flights. This decision affects travelers who often rely on power banks to keep their devices charged while in transit. The airline’s new rule allows passengers to carry a single power bank, provided its capacity is less than 100 watt-hours (Wh). Passengers are permitted to have the power bank with them but cannot use it during the flight.

The airline’s primary concern is safety. Power banks contain lithium-ion or lithium-polymer batteries, which can overheat and pose a fire risk. This risk, known as thermal runaway, causes the battery’s temperature to increase, potentially leading to fire or explosion.
