As the monsoon arrives, electronic appliances in your home, particularly kitchen equipment like refrigerators and freezers, can be affected. A frequent complaint during this period is excessive ice buildup within the freezer. This ice formation not only disrupts the freezer’s cooling efficiency but also increases energy consumption. However, you can avoid this problem by operating your freezer in the proper mode.

Increased humidity during the rainy season is the main reason for this issue. Every time you open the freezer door, moisture from the outside air gets in. This moisture quickly freezes on the cold surfaces inside, slowly forming a thick layer of ice. That is why ice accumulates much faster during the monsoon.

Many modern refrigerators have frost-free technology. Such freezers have a “Defrost Mode” or “Frost-Free Mode” option. Make sure to use this mode during the rainy season. It automatically melts any extra ice and distributes the cold air evenly.

If your freezer is an older model without this feature, it’s best to defrost it manually once a week. Turn off the freezer, open the door to let the ice melt, wipe the inside with a clean cloth, and turn it back on.

By following these steps, you can improve your freezer’s cooling performance, keep your food fresher for longer, lower your electricity bill, and extend the life of your freezer. Consider these points: avoid opening the freezer door too often, don’t overload the freezer to allow for air circulation, and don’t put moist items like hot dishes or open containers directly into the freezer.
