The smartphone market is experiencing significant excitement. Reports indicate that Samsung Display’s President, Lee Cheong, has confirmed the commencement of mass production of OLED panels for a foldable phone, specifically for an American company. While the specific company was not identified, industry analysts believe this points towards Apple’s initial foray into the foldable phone market. Samsung Display’s President, Lee Cheong, recently disclosed that the company is starting mass production of OLED panels for foldable phones. Although no brand name was mentioned, there is widespread speculation within the tech sector that this production is intended for Apple, potentially strengthening the existing partnership between Apple and Samsung. Leaked details suggest that Apple’s foldable iPhone will feature a 5.5-inch cover display along with a 7.8-inch internal folding screen. This device might forgo Face ID, opting instead for a side-mounted Touch ID sensor. This design represents a departure from previous iPhone models, showcasing a futuristic approach. Furthermore, it is speculated that the Apple foldable phone’s design will be comparable to the recently released iPhone Air, incorporating a double-screen approach. Tech analysts anticipate that Apple might launch its foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 series in September 2026. However, this timeline is subject to change. Apple often introduces unexpected product releases, so the launch date remains speculative. Tech reporter Mark Gurman, in his “Power On” newsletter, has stated that Apple’s initial foldable phone will be exceptionally thin and incorporate advanced folding technology. He further noted that the device will be manufactured by Foxconn in China. This suggests that Apple is taking serious measures to prepare for its first foldable device. Currently, Samsung’s Galaxy Z series holds dominance in the foldable smartphone market. Apple’s first foldable iPhone will directly challenge this existing lineup. Given the presence of popular foldables already available, Apple faces considerable competition. Thus, Apple will need to differentiate its new foldable iPhone in the market.
