In a major boost to India’s tech ecosystem, Amazon unveiled its second-largest office in Asia on Monday in Bengaluru. Spanning an impressive 1.1 million square feet across 12 floors, this state-of-the-art campus will house over 7,000 employees focused on e-commerce, operations, payments, technology, and seller services.
Karnataka’s Minister for Medium and Small Industries and Infrastructure Development, M.B. Patil, inaugurated the facility. He highlighted how Amazon’s ongoing investments underscore Bengaluru’s role as a global hub for technology and innovation. ‘Such expansive campuses generate high-quality jobs, bolster local ecosystems, and fuel India’s digital economy,’ Patil stated, welcoming investments that build long-term capabilities and opportunities for the workforce.
This launch aligns with Amazon’s deep commitment to India, where the company has already invested over $40 billion and pledged an additional $35 billion by 2030. Strategically located just 15 kilometers from Kempegowda International Airport, the office is designed to foster collaboration, flexibility, learning, and employee well-being.
Amazon India Country Manager Samir Kumar emphasized Bengaluru’s legacy as a cradle for the company’s early tech and business teams, now a thriving center of innovation and talent. The campus boasts recreational amenities like basketball and pickleball courts, an amphitheater, lush green lawns, and community outdoor spaces. A two-floor cafeteria serves a diverse array of global cuisines.
Sustainability is at the forefront, with features like responsible material sourcing, office property reuse, and high-efficiency systems aimed at reducing carbon emissions and operational footprints. This development not only cements Amazon’s footprint in India but also signals robust growth in the region’s tech landscape.
