New Delhi, February 16. Wipro Limited’s Chief Strategist and Technology Officer Hari Shetty declared on Monday that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will profoundly reshape the nature of jobs in the coming years, yet it represents a massive opportunity for growth and employment.
In an exclusive conversation, Shetty described AI as the most significant technological shift of our era, drawing parallels to groundbreaking inventions like electricity, the steam engine, and the internet revolution.
‘AI stands as one of the greatest technological opportunities we have ever seen,’ Shetty emphasized. ‘It’s a multifaceted transformation that will redefine industries and economies worldwide.’
Citing a recent World Economic Forum report, he highlighted that AI could generate nearly 170 million new jobs globally, while impacting around 92 million existing ones. The net result? Over 70 million additional jobs, signaling a overwhelmingly positive outcome.
Shetty acknowledged that work methods will evolve, requiring companies and individuals to acquire new skills. ‘The future is bright,’ he asserted confidently.
Wipro is proactively preparing its workforce through extensive AI literacy programs, ensuring every employee receives relevant training. The company is also partnering with seven Indian states to establish Centers of Excellence in AI and data science, benefiting approximately 60,000 students.
