New Delhi, February 17: Central Electronics and IT Secretary S Krishnan emphasized on Tuesday that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will truly succeed only if it delivers practical solutions that enhance everyday lives, moving beyond mere hype.

Speaking at the second day of the India AI Impact Summit 2026 during a session titled ‘From Algorithms to Outcomes: Building AI that Works for People,’ Krishnan highlighted the India AI Mission’s focus on addressing diverse needs and real-world challenges.

In the panel discussion, he stated, ‘We are providing computing power, models, and data solely to create applications that generate real impact. A walk through the exhibition will reveal hundreds of startups innovating in healthcare, agriculture, education, and manufacturing. That’s where the true impact emerges.’

Krishnan pointed out a critical reality: governments can never have enough teachers, doctors, or judges. ‘But if AI boosts productivity, we can dramatically improve service quality,’ he added.

He outlined key challenges ahead: selecting effective measures, implementing them responsibly, safeguarding privacy, and ensuring measurable outcomes from public funds.

The session delved into the dual imperatives of people-centric AI and sovereign technological capabilities. Its core aim was to ensure AI systems drive tangible improvements in public service delivery and citizen welfare.

Discussions centered on leveraging computing, models, and data to develop applications that enhance productivity, strengthen governance, and deliver concrete benefits to citizens. Krishnan’s vision underscores a future where AI is judged by its ability to solve pressing problems effectively.
