  • Weather Update: IMD Issues Yellow Alert For Rain And Thunderstorms In Several States During Diwali |

    Weather Update For Diwali 2024: As various cities are geared up for Diwali celebration, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Karnataka during Diwali celebration on October 31. The weather department also predicted thundershowers accompanied by lightning over the area of Tamil Nadu, Goa, Maharashtra, Puducherry, Kerala and Karnataka

    The Meteorological department informed that light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and lightning is likely to take place over isolated regions of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Lakshadweep, and Karnataka between October 31 and November 1. 

    IMD Prediction For Delhi

    The IMD forecasted a clear sky and indicated that the predominant wind is likely to come from the northwest at speeds of up to 5 km/h, mostly during the morning hours. The weather department also informed that the national capital is likely to experience smog and shallow fog during the night.

    Weather Update For Maharashtra

    The Meteorological Department has forecasted thunderstorms with lightning, as well as light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds of 30-40 km/h. These conditions are expected at isolated locations in the districts of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada. Residents in these areas should be prepared for potentially disruptive weather.

  • Weather Update: Heavy Rain Likely In Tamil Nadu, Orange Alert Issued In These Districts |

    Weather Updates: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued an orange alert in many districts of Tamil Nadu till October 18. In a statement issued on Sunday, the RMC has predicted 204 mm of rainfall in the southern state during this period.

    Following the forecast of rain, the Tamil Nadu Disaster Management Authority has done all the preparations for any eventuality and has already put 65,000 volunteers on alert.The volunteers will be available for rescue and relief operations along with state government agencies.

    According to Greater Chennai Corporation authorities, 10,000 volunteers will be available for service in Chennai alone.

    As per the RMC, heavy showers are likely in several districts in the state, including Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Dindigul, Theni, Virudhunagar, Pudukottai, Sivaganga, Madurai, and Ramanathapuram, starting Sunday.

    The weather department also stated that a low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea is developing into a cyclonic storm.

    According to the RMC, Tamil Nadu is set to experience widespread rain from Sunday. Heavy to very heavy downpours are predicted in the Delta districts of Tamil Nadu from Monday (October 14). Northern districts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Cuddalore, may experience heavy to very heavy rain.

    Tamil Nadu’s disaster management team is on high alert, and monitoring teams are prepared to track power outages and other electricity-related issues.

    Two prevailing weather systems in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal have pushed moisture into the region.

    The RMC has forecast that most areas in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal will experience heavy to very heavy rain until October 16. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that the northeast monsoon is likely to set in around October 17.

    A high-level meeting of ministers and officials was held last week, with Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin presiding over the meeting. The meeting discussed immediate measures, including rescue operations during heavy rain.

    The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted forecast heavy rainfall across Tamil Nadu from October 12 to 15 as the northeast monsoon approaches. An orange alert has been issued for October 15 in ten districts, including Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, and the ghats areas of Coimbatore and Tirupur.

    According to the regional Meteorological Centre, heavy rain is likely to occur on October 12 at isolated places over the Ghat areas of Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts of Tamilnadu; Nilgiris, Erode, Namakkal, Salem, Karur and Dindigul districts of Tamilnadu, Kerala and South Interior Karnataka.

    For October 13, the weather department forecasted heavy rain over the isolated regions of Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts of Tamilnadu and Nilgiris, Erode, Dindigul and Karur districts of Tamilnadu and Kerala.

    Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur over Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai and Nagapattinam districts of Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area, while, Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Tiruvallur, Ranipet, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Chennai, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur and Pudukkottai districts of Tamilnadu on October 14. 

    Delhi Weather Update

    The Meteorological Department predicted a partly cloudy sky over the national capital, with a maximum temperature of 34 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 21 degrees Celsius.

    Additionally, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall is forecasted for Konkan & Goa, the Gujarat region, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada over the next three days.     In Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected over the next three days, with scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall anticipated over the subsequent four days. Similar rainfall is also predicted for Madhya Pradesh throughout the week. Over the next seven days, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected across Northeast India and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.

    Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of  26.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, which is 2.5 degrees above the seasonal average.  The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a cloudy sky for the day. The maximum temperature is expected to peak at around 37 degrees Celsius. This follows a warm Monday, where the city experienced a high of 37 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal, marking the highest temperature recorded for the month so far.

    Humidity levels in the city fluctuated between 53% and 93% on Monday, with a recorded minimum temperature of 24.9 degrees Celsius, which is one degree above the norm. The city has gone without rain for four consecutive days, with the last recorded maximum temperature of 36 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

    Monsoon Developments

    According to the IMD, the southwest monsoon has started to withdraw from certain parts of West Rajasthan and Kachchh, occurring earlier than the typical withdrawal date of September 17. The IMD has indicated that conditions are becoming favorable for the monsoon’s retreat from more areas in West Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Gujarat within the next 24 hours.

     Rain Predictions Ahead

    While the standard monsoon withdrawal date for Delhi is September 25, the IMD has yet to confirm the exact timeline for the capital. However, a return of rain is anticipated starting Wednesday night, likely leading to a decrease in temperatures. A light rain is expected on Wednesday night, with more significant rainfall and gusty winds of 25-35 km/h projected for Thursday and Friday. Additional light rain is also forecasted for Saturday, with maximum temperatures expected to hover around 37 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and drop to 35 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

  • Schools Remain Shut On September 12, 13 Due To Heavy Rain Across UP, MP And Uttarakhand |

    Northern Indian states such as Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Uttarakhand are experiencing continuous rainfall. In a recent notification, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) raised a warning for rainfall for the coming two to three days over the regions of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. 

    According to the reports, in Uttar Pradesh, all schools in Agra have been ordered to remain closed on September 12 due to heavy rainfall warnings. The District Magistrate issued this directive. Similarly, schools in Etah district have been closed due to the rain. In Bulandshahr, the District Magistrate has declared a holiday for all schools as heavy rainfall is expected, While Schools in Kannauj are also closed today due to the same reasons. Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district also announced closures of schools for both September 12 and 13.

    Uttarakhand’s districts such as Chamoli, Bageshwar, Rishikesh, and Nainital have also been closed on September 12 due to the prediction of heavy rainfall.

    Rajasthan is experiencing heavy rains, resulting in school closures. In Ajmer, all schools are closed on September 12, Meanwhile, in Dholpur, schools will remain shut until further notice due to the ongoing weather conditions.

    Reportedly, Bhopal has announced a holiday for students from Class 1 to Class 5 due to heavy rains over the resigns. Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh district has declared a two-day closure for schools, while Bhind, Gwalior, Niwari, and Shivpuri districts have also ordered the closure of all schools on September 12.

    New Delhi: As monsoon arrived in major part of the country, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday raised an ‘orange’ alert for heavy rain in the region of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and some districts of Maharastra. 

    Parts of the national capital including Rohini and Burari, received rainfall this morning. The department has forecast moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms for the coming days.

    “Delhi is likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall throughout the day, with an even heavier spell anticipated on Sunday and Monday,” the IMD said, PTI reported.

    Cyclonic Circulation Brings Widespread Rains In Gujarat

    The weather department released the statement saying cyclonic circulation active over south Gujarat brought widespread rains in several parts of the state and this will continue for the coming few days. IMD has issued a yellow alert for south Gujarat, predicting the possibility of heavy showers.

    “The cyclonic circulation over central Gujarat and neighbourhood now lies over south Gujarat and extends up to 4.5 km above mean sea level tilting southwards. Due to the above-mentioned systems, Gujarat is very likely to receive an active wet spell during the next five days” said IMD in a release, PTI reported.

    According to the release, there are forecasts of heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Valsad and Navsari districts, as well as the adjoining Union Territory of Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli on Saturday.

    IMD Forecasts For Southwest India 

    The current northern limit of the monsoon extends through Jaisalmer and Churu in Rajasthan, Bhiwani, Delhi, Aligarh, Hardoi, Moradabad, Una (Western UP), Pathankot in Punjab, and Jammu.

    The meteorological department on Saturday announced that the Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into the remaining parts of East Uttar Pradesh and some more parts of West Uttar Pradesh.

    The maximum temperature in Delhi on Saturday was 39.4 degrees Celsius, a tick over usual, according to the India Meteorological Department. The minimum temperature has risen 0.6 degrees Celsius over the season’s normal, to 28.6 degrees Celsius, it said. Rain poured down in numerous parts of Delhi on Friday, providing reprieve from the city’s extreme heat wave. The national capital received 4 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours that ended at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. The humidity level ranged between 50% and 62%.

    Delhi’s Weather Forecast For Sunday

    The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted cloudy sky with possibility of light rain or drizzle in Delhi on Sunday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 40 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius respectively. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air quality index (AQI) of the national capital was recorded in the ‘moderate’ category with 190 points at 6 pm.

    An AQI between zero and 50 is considered “good,” 51 and 100 “satisfactory,” 101 and 200 “moderate,” 201 and 300 “poor,” 301 and 400 “very poor,” and 401 and 500 “severe.”

    Heatwave Alert In Parts Of UP:

    Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over parts south-west and west Uttar Pradesh during the next 24 hours. Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have also received relief from the scorching heat.

    Monsoon Alert:

    “Conditions are becoming favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of Bihar and some more parts of east Uttar Pradesh during the next 72 hours,” it said. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall over Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry over the next few days. The IMD has predicted that the monsoon will reach Delhi by June 30.

    New Delhi: The IMD has forecast light rain in Delhi on Friday, potentially offering respite from the scorching heat beating down on the national capital. 

    On Thursday, the maximum temperature recorded at the Safdarjung Observatory, considered the official marker of the city, was 4.9 notches above normal at 44.8 degrees Celsius. 

    The Najafgarh weather station recorded a maximum temperature of 45.1 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. 

    Among Delhi’s other stations, Narela recorded a high of 45.3 degrees Celsius, Aya Nagar 46.4 degrees, Ridge 46.3 degrees and Palam 45.8 degrees, the weather office said in a bulletin. 

    The national capital was under an ‘orange’ alert, which stands for “be prepared” during the day. 

    The relative humidity oscillated between 15 per cent and 58 per cent, according to the IMD bulletin. 

    It has forecast partly cloudy skies with a possibility of thunderstorms and light rain or drizzle in a few places towards the afternoon and the evening on Friday. 

    The IMD has also predicted heatwave conditions in some areas, accompanied by strong surface winds reaching speeds of 35 kilometres per hour on Friday. 

    The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 44 and 30 degrees Celsius, respectively.

    New Delhi: The Indian Metrological Department (IMD) forecasted extremely heavy rainfall over the region of West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya and South Interior Karnataka while districts of Madhya Maharastra, Arunachal Pradesh and Coastal Karnataka can experience heavy rainfall on Monday. 

    The department informed that the regions of Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and north interior Karnataka, Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura may experience thunderstorm accomplished with lightning & gusty wind on June 10. Maharashtra’s Mumbai has already experiencing rainfall for the past few days due to which several parts are causing waterlogging issues. 

    IMD Prediction For Heatwave

    States like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and some regions of Bihar are likely to experience a heatwave-like situation on Monday, while Odisha can experience hot and humid weather. 
    Madhya Pradesh districts Tikamgarh, Gwalior and Khajuraho experienced severe heatwave conditions on June 9 with more than 43 degrees Celsius.

    Mumbai Is Witnessing Monsoon Vibe 

    Mumbai has started witnessing rainfall after the southwest Monsoon has arrived in advance and will continue over the region of Maharashtra including Mumbai. Thunderstorms and rainfall were reported over regions of Mumbai which caused the waterlogged in several regions of Mumbai.
