As per the instructions of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, the state government has taken important steps to strictly ban gambling and betting, especially online gambling, in the state and take swift action against those involved. Under the Chhattisgarh Gambling (Prohibition) Act 2022, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) and the State Economic Offenses Investigation (EOW) have now been given the right to investigate and take action.

After the publication of this notification, ACB and EOW will be able to take quick and effective action in cases of online gambling. Till now ACB and EOW used to investigate only cases of corruption and financial irregularities, but with this step their scope has increased further.

Investigation will be done in the same wing

With ACB and EOW getting the right to investigate and take action under the Gambling Act, these cases will be investigated under the same wing, which will make investigation easier and action faster. This will effectively crack down on gambling and betting in the state.

Online gambling has been included in the Chhattisgarh Gambling (Prohibition) Act 2022. Under this, there is a provision of 7 years imprisonment and non-bailable sections if found guilty. The Act makes owning a gambling house, gambling, online gambling, violation of advertising prohibition and crime by the company as cognizable and non-bailable offences.

Online gambling platform term added to definition of gambling house

The new Act adds the term online gambling platform to the definition of gambling house and the term electronic record, device, mobile app, and electronic transfer of funds to the definition of equipment. The old Act did not have any provision for punishment for online gambling, but now separate punishment has been provided, which provides for a maximum of 3 years imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 5 lakh. Repeat offenders can be punished with a maximum of 7 years imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 10 lakh.

This new move will ensure strict monitoring and action on online gambling and betting in the state, thereby minimising its negative impacts on society.

Purushottam Patra, Gariaband. Devbhog police has solved the 4-year-old murder case in Dahigaon with the help of cyber cell. Police has arrested two persons in the case. On the night of 26 June 2020, there was a dispute between 22-year-old deceased Jhajketan, a resident of Dahigaon, and Deviram Pradhan, 51 years of age, of the same village, over a complaint of toddy sale. In the dispute, Deviram hit Jhajketan on the head with a stone, due to which he died on the spot. But the accused made it look like an accident.

In the case, Devbhog police station chief Gautam Gawade said on Sunday that the police have registered a case under the sections 302, 201(34) against Devisingh Pradhan, 51, and Hemsingh Rajak, 41, and are ready to send the accused behind bars.

Question raised on the action of the then police station in-charge of deceased Jhajketan

Initially, the accused and his associate Hemsingh Rajak made it look like an accident. Instead of informing Devbhog, he was directly taken to Dharmagarh Hospital in Odisha. Hemsingh told a false story and informed the police station, on which the police registered a case on 27 June 2020. Surprisingly, the then doctor Anju Sonwani had expressed the possibility of murder in the PM report and mentioned that the head was hit by a heavy object. Despite this, the then police station in-charge Harshvardhan Bais closed the case by covering it up by citing lack of evidence.

The father said that he used to threaten to send me to jail if I asked for justice

The deceased’s father Phoolchand Rajak said that though late, I finally got justice. The burden of raising the deceased’s widow and innocent son is also on Phoolchand. Phoolchand said that the murder was the talk of the town. But the police was not listening, despite my repeated requests, instead of giving me justice, the station in-charge threatened to send me to jail.

Inquiry regarding money transactions also started

The investigation has also revealed the matter of the previous transactions. The circumstances under which the agreement letter was made are also being investigated. It is reported that after the accused confirmed the transaction, the police have also summoned those who were involved in the transaction at that time. It is being told that the deceased Tirath Kumar Yadav (24 years) was a resident of Dhamtari district. He was returning home after finishing his work at his in-laws’ house in Hathbay. Prateek Chauhan. Raipur/Durg. The IG of South East Central Railway Zone issued a letter on July 26 (Order No. 1862) and directed to take action against illegal vendors from July 28. But just a day after the issuance of this order and just a day before the start of the special drive, Lalluram’s team reached Durg Railway Station to know the condition of illegal vendors at Durg Railway Station. After reaching here, we were stunned to see that illegal vendors were seen doing illegal vending fearlessly inside the trains right in front of the RPF post (RPF POST DURG). The name of the surrendered female Naxalite is Ranita alias Hidme Kawasi, who is a resident of Sukma district. The female ACM Naxalite surrendered after being influenced by the surrender policy of the government.
