  • Pakistan announces 15-player squad for T20 World Cup 2024; Hasan Ali Misses Out | Cricket News

After hours of speculation, Pakistan on Friday evening announced their 15-player squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, with Babar Azam leading the Men in Green in the marquee event scheduled to kick off on June 1. The mega tournament will be held in the USA and the West Indies.

The announcement comes hours after Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi halted the formal announcement of the squad for the T20 World Cup, as reported by Geo News sources. Earlier in the day, Naqvi had expressed displeasure over selectors not holding a meeting to discuss the players for the marquee event.

Out of the 15 players names of whom were declared by the PCB today, five, including Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Saim Ayub and Usman Khan, will make their maiden appearance in the upcoming ICC tournament. “This is an extremely talented and balanced side that has a mixture of youth and experience. These players have been playing together for some time and look well-prepared and settled for next month’s event. This is an extremely talented and balanced side that has a mixture of youth and experience. These players have been playing together for some time and look well prepared and settled for next month’s event,” PCB said in a statement.

The statement also provided an injury update on Haris Rauf, with a declaration about the speedster’s full recovery. The PCB is hopeful that he will play a crucial role for Pakistan in the upcoming tournament.

Rauf made his last appearance for the Asian Giants in January and had been on the sidelines after suffering a shoulder injury during a match in the Pakistan Super League.

“Haris Rauf is fully fit and bowling well in the nets. It would have been nice if he had gotten an outing at Headingley, but we remain confident that he will continue to maintain an upward trajectory in the upcoming matches, as he will have an important role to play along with other strike bowlers in the T20 World Cup,” PCB added.

After inclusion of Rauf, there is no space left for right-arm seamer, Hasan Ali, in the 15-player squad. Ali was recently released from Pakistan’s squad for their ongoing T20I tour of England.

The Men in Green will kick off their campaign against the USA on June 6. They will face arch-rival India on June 9 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York.

  • USA Defeat Bangladesh In Historic T20I Series Victory Ahead Of T20 World Cup 2024 | Cricket News

The USA cricket team achieved a historic milestone on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at the Prairie View Cricket Complex in Dallas, clinching their first-ever series win over an ICC full-member nation. In a thrilling contest, the USA edged out Bangladesh by six runs in the second T20I, securing an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Chasing a modest target of 145, Bangladesh’s innings started on a shaky note. Soumya Sarkar was dismissed for a duck on the fourth ball of the innings, setting the tone for a challenging pursuit. Tanzid Hasan, another opener, managed 19 runs but fell during the powerplay, leaving Bangladesh at 30/2. The rescue effort came from skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy, who shared a 48-run partnership. However, their cautious approach consumed valuable balls, leaving the middle order under pressure to accelerate later. A miscommunication led to Shanto’s run-out for 36 off 24 balls, and Hridoy soon followed, deepening Bangladesh’s woes.

    Ali Khan’s Stellar Performance

Ali Khan was the star with the ball, delivering a match-winning performance. His figures of 3/25 included the crucial wicket of Shakib Al Hasan, who was dismissed for 30 off 23 balls at the start of the 18th over. Khan’s incisive bowling dismantled Bangladesh’s lower order, with key dismissals of Rishad Hossain and Tanzim Hasan Sakib. Saurabh Netravalkar and Shadley van Schalkwyk also shone, each taking two wickets and applying relentless pressure. Netravalkar’s economical spell of 2/15 in three overs was pivotal in restricting the visitors to 138 in 19.3 overs, sealing a memorable victory for the USA.

    USA’s Resilient Batting Display

Earlier, after winning the toss and opting to field, Bangladesh’s bowlers had performed admirably, limiting the USA to 144/6. Monank Patel, the USA captain, led from the front with a crucial 42 off 38 balls. His innings was vital in setting a competitive total, especially on a two-paced pitch. Steven Taylor and Aaron Jones provided valuable support, scoring 31 and 35 runs respectively. The USA managed a late surge, adding 40 runs in the last four overs, thanks to some aggressive batting by Nitin Kumar and van Schalkwyk.

    Bangladesh’s middle-order collapse

Despite a promising position at 78/2, Bangladesh’s middle order crumbled under pressure. The dismissal of Shanto and Hridoy triggered a collapse, with the team losing their last eight wickets for just 60 runs. Corey Anderson’s run-out of Shanto and Khan’s double strike in the 18th over were crucial turning points.

    Captain’s Reactions

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto expressed disappointment over the loss, emphasizing the need for a mindset shift. “This result is very disappointing. We have an opportunity to come back in the third game and win before the T20 World Cup. It’s not about the skill; we need to change our mindset,” Shanto remarked.

A Historic Moment for USA Cricket

The victory marks a significant achievement for USA cricket, especially with the upcoming T20 World Cup, which they will co-host with the West Indies starting June 1. Ali Khan, named man of the match, attributed the win to the collective effort of the bowlers. “A lot of credit goes to the bowlers. They really put in the effort and brought their A-Game to restrict the Bangladeshi batsmen,” Khan said.

  • Rohit Sharma Was Reluctance To Include Hardik Pandya In Team India’s T20 World Cup 2024 Squad: Report | cricket news

The Indian cricketing community has been abuzz with speculation and whispers of an internal rift, specifically between two of its leading stars: Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya. This friction surfaced dramatically when the Mumbai Indians (MI) management handed over the captaincy reins to Hardik Pandya ahead of IPL 2024, replacing the seasoned Rohit Sharma. Despite the high expectations, Hardik’s stint as MI captain has been less than stellar, culminating in the team’s early exit from playoff contention.

    Hardik’s Underwhelming Performance

The statistical narrative of Hardik Pandya’s IPL 2024 season tells a tale of mediocrity. Across 13 matches, Hardik managed to score just 200 runs with a strike rate of 144.93. His bowling figures weren’t much better, securing 11 wickets at an economy rate of 10.59. Such lackluster performances have inevitably fueled debates regarding his selection for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Americas.

    Selection Controversy: Pressure and Politics

Reports from Dainik Jagran revealed that neither Rohit Sharma nor the BCCI’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar were in favor of including Hardik in the 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup. The crux of their argument was Hardik’s recent form and fitness levels, which did not justify his place in the team. However, it appears that external pressures played a significant role in his selection, with some sources hinting at top-level influences and the absence of a viable replacement as key factors.

The Press Conference: Agarkar’s Diplomatic Response

During a press conference following the squad announcement, Ajit Agarkar was directly questioned about Hardik’s inclusion despite his recent form. Agarkar responded diplomatically, emphasizing the lack of a like-for-like replacement in the current talent pool. This response, however, did little to quell the murmurs of discontent and speculation about underlying political pressures.

The Bigger Picture: India’s World Cup Prospects

India’s campaign at the T20 World Cup 2024 will see them facing stiff competition, starting with their high-voltage clash against Pakistan in New York on June 9. The squad, led by Rohit Sharma and with Hardik Pandya as vice-captain, has been under the scanner, with fans and pundits questioning whether internal team dynamics could affect on-field performance.

    Potential Impact on Team Morale

The internal discord between Rohit and Hardik, if unresolved, could impact team morale. Videos and reports from the IPL season highlighted visible tensions within the MI camp, with players seemingly divided into factions. Such internal strife, if carried into the national team setup, could prove detrimental to India’s World Cup aspirations.

    Rohit’s Possible Retirement

Adding another layer to this unfolding drama is the speculation surrounding Rohit Sharma’s future in T20 cricket. Reports suggest that Rohit might retire from the format post the World Cup. If true, this could signify a major transition phase for Indian cricket, with potential leadership changes on the horizon.

    Final Thoughts: Navigating Through Turbulence

As India prepares for the T20 World Cup 2024, the focus should ideally be on strategic preparations and player form. However, the lingering issues between Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya cast a shadow over the team’s prospects. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether the team can navigate through these internal challenges and deliver on the world stage.

    India’s T20 World Cup Squad

Main Squad: Rohit Sharma (captain), Hardik Pandya (vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj.

Reserves: Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, Avesh Khan.

  • Blame Game In Pakistan Cricket Team’s Camp After Humiliating Defeat Against Ireland, Captain Babar Azam Says THIS | cricket news

In a stunning upset, Pakistan suffered a historic five-wicket loss against Ireland in the opening T20I of the series in Dublin. The cricketing world was left stunned as the Associate nation defied the odds to script a remarkable victory over the formidable Men in Green. At the heart of the defeat was the candid admission from Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam, who pulled no punches in his assessment of his team’s dismal performance.

“We didn’t start well in the first 6 overs; the pitch was a bit two-paced and had some bounce. We recovered well after that and got 182 but I think 190 was a par score,” he said. However, it was Pakistan’s lacklustre bowling and sloppy fielding that ultimately proved their undoing, according to the skipper. “But I think we lost due to the bowling and fielding. We didn’t execute our plans and had some sloppy lapses in the field which cost us,” Babar added.

    Pakistan’s Bowling Woes

Babar’s scathing remarks were not without merit, as Pakistan’s vaunted bowling attack, spearheaded by the fiery Shaheen Shah Afridi, faltered under pressure. Shadab Khan, typically economical, leaked 54 runs from his four overs, while Naseem Shah and Abbas Afridi also struggled to contain the Irish batters.

    The Batting Heroics

Chasing a daunting target of 183, Ireland’s openers Andrew Balbirnie and Paul Stirling provided a solid start, laying the foundation for the remarkable chase. Balbirnie, in particular, was the star of the show, his innings of 77 off just 55 deliveries laced with seven boundaries and two maximums.

The right-hander’s intelligent batting, coupled with crucial partnerships with Harry Tector (36) and George Dockrell (24*), kept Ireland in the hunt throughout the innings. With 16 runs required off the final over, it was Curtis Campher who played the decisive hand, smashing an unbeaten 15 off just 7 balls to guide his team across the line with a ball to spare.

    Pakistan’s Batting Woes

While Pakistan posted a competitive total of 182/6, their batting lineup also failed to fire on all cylinders. Barring Babar Azam’s resolute 57 and Iftikhar Ahmed’s quickfire 37, the rest of the batters struggled to cope with the Irish bowling attack.

The unexpected hero for Ireland was Craig Young, who not only dismissed the dangerous Babar but also accounted for Azam Khan’s wicket in the same over, derailing Pakistan’s momentum in the middle overs.

    Historic Moment for Irish Cricket

This victory against a cricketing powerhouse like Pakistan marks a watershed moment for Irish cricket. Not only did they claim their maiden T20I win over the Men in Green, but they also gained valuable momentum ahead of their much-anticipated clash against Pakistan in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies.

  • Virat Kohli Deserves Another World Cup Medal, Says Yuvraj Singh | cricket news

Former star India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh hailed batting talisman Virat Kohli as the “best batter of this generation” across all formats and outlined what makes the 35-year-old unique. At the ICC Men’s ODI Cricket World Cup 2023, Kohli’s career reached new heights as he set a record for most runs scored and led the run charts. Kohli, who will be featuring for the sixth time in the T20 World Cup tournament, has set his eyes on the coveted trophy.

Yuvraj said that the star batsman deserves to win the World Cup medal more than anyone. After participating in the 2011 World Cup winning campaign, Yuvraj stated that Kohli deserved to win another World Cup medal.

“He has definitely broken all the records in this era. The best batter of this generation, I feel, in all formats. And I think he is also someone who needs a World Cup Medal. He has one. I’m sure he is Not satisfied with one. I think he surely deserves that medal as well,” Yuvraj said in a chat with ICC.

The T20 World Cup has witnessed some of Kohli’s most memorable knocks, most notably two years ago at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where he stunned over 90,000 spectators with a finish like none other against arch-rivals Pakistan. Virat played one of the most iconic knocks in the format, scoring 82* in just 53 balls, with six fours and four sixes during a tense run-chase of 160 runs when India was 31/4 at one point.

Meanwhile, in the 2016 tournament, Australia took the brunt of Kohli’s stunning brilliance as he displayed his ability to chase targets down. After 161 runs were needed to be chased, Kohli played an incredible innings of 82 off 51 balls to take India semi-finals.

“I think he understands his game really well. He knows if he’s there till the end, he is going to win the game for India and he has done that on some big occasions – against Australia in Mohali as well. Once he had the confidence to chase and knew the situation, he knew how to bat in these situations, knows which bowlers to attack, which bowlers to take singles off, when to attack again, handle the pressure and when to change his game,” Yuvraj said.

Kohli’s form in 2024 is not all that far from the 2014. The leading scorer in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 edition, the star batter announced his availability to play Twenty20 Internationals for India prior to the T20 World Cup. He will be the mainstay of the batting lineup once more as India looks to win the title.

Despite the quick growth of Twenty20, Kohli has not had any difficulty keeping up, amassing 542 runs this IPL 2024 at an average of 67.75 and a strike rate of 148.08.

“Why I think he was so good was because every time in nets or a practice situation, he would not go and just slog balls. In the nets, he would always bat like he was batting in a match. He put that in repetition after Repetition after repetition. I have not seen that in many players,” Yuvraj describes.

Earlier in this month, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India’s 15-player squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The Men in Blue are placed in Group A of the ICC tournament alongside arch-rivals Pakistan, Ireland, Canada and co-hosts USA.

India will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland on June 5 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York, followed by the marquee clash against Pakistan on June 9 at the same venue.
