  • Jay Shah Explains Absence Of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma From Duleep Trophy 2024 | cricket news

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah said on Thursday that star batsmen Rohit and Virat Kohli should not be insisted on playing Duleep Trophy since exposing them more will have a risk of injuries. The Duleep Trophy, which marks the beginning of red-ball cricket in the domestic season, will feature top India stars from the international circuit and emerging talents competing at the highest level.

The tournament is set to begin on September 5, 2024, in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh and M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. (Throwback: When MS Dhoni Shocked Everyone With Single Social Media Post On Independence Day)

Though BCCI is encouraging top Indian players and regulars to take part in domestic cricket more regularly, Shah said that the two cricketing icons should not be insisted on playing in the tournament to reduce the chance of them sustaining injuries. He also noted how in Australia and England, every international player does not play domestic cricket.

In a media interaction with Mumbai, as quoted by Wisden, Shah said, “We should not insist on players like Rohit and Virat to play in the Duleep Trophy. They will risk injury. If you have noticed, in Australia and England, every international player does not play domestic cricket. We have to treat the players with respect.”

Notably, India’s key players of red-ball cricket, including captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah, will not feature in the competition. Rohit’s last appearance in the tournament was back in 2016 while for Virat it was back in 2010, when he was yet to feature in a Test for India.

He also said that other notable names will be involved in domestic cricket during the coming days, notably Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer who lost their BCCI central contracts due to their alleged lack of participation in domestic red-ball cricket.

“Apart from them, everyone else is playing. You should appreciate that. One must note that Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer are playing in the Buchi Babu tournament,” added Shah.

The Buchi Babu tournament, which is starting on Thursday will see the participation from Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav representing their state teams. Star India batsmen Rishabh Pant, Kishan, Shubman Gill and many more players are set to feature in the Duleep Trophy 2024-25 season.

Notably, pacer Prasidh Krishna will make his comeback after serving a lengthy period on the sidelines due to injury. Since 2019, Krishan’s career has been plagued by injuries. He sustained a stress fracture on his left leg in 2019, a stress fracture of the back in 2022, and a quadriceps injury in 2024.

Young batsman Tilak Varma has also been included in the tournament. He suffered a wrist injury towards the end of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Youngster Musheer Khan, who starred for India in the Under-19 World Cup, has been rewarded for his consistency. The 19-year-old all-rounder enjoyed a breakout season after lifting the Ranji Trophy with Mumbai earlier this year. Musheer will look to make his mark after being included in the Duleep Trophy.

Young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has also been included in the first round of the tournament, but his participation remains subject to fitness. (Virat Kohli Living ‘Common Man Life’ In London, Video Goes Viral – Watch)

  • ‘IPL Wala Hai Kya’: KL Rahul’s Hilarious Discussion With Rohit Sharma Goes Viral – WATCH | cricket news

Team India have begun a new era under head coach Gautam Gambhir and the first project is the tour of Sri Lanka. With a whitewash in the T20I series, Men in Blue began their ODI series with the return of some big names like Virat Kohli, captain Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and more. However, focusing on the first ODI against Sri Lanka, a funny incident happened which took the internet apart. KL Rahul seemed to be confused with the DRS rule of international cricket and IPL. He was seen asking his captain about the rule as heard on screen, “IPL Wala rule hai kya.”(Is the IPL rule applicable here?)

Sri Lankan openers Avishka Fernando and Pathum Nissanka faced a challenging new ball attack from Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh. Siraj struck first, and then Shivam Dube, coming in as the second-change bowler, dismissed Kusal Mendis in the fourteenth over. Two balls later, a controversial moment unfolded when the umpire denied an appeal for a catch, leaving both the bowler and wicketkeeper perplexed. Dube bowled a length delivery down the leg stump, which Nissanka attempted to flick. Wicketkeeper Rahul and Dube appealed for a caught-out decision, but the on-field umpire turned it down. Dube then gestured for a review, prompting Rahul to question whether the rule allowing reviews for wides applied in international cricket.

Charith Asalanka-led Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat against Rohit Sharma’s India in the first ODI match of the series at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday. India’s tour of Sri Lanka started on July 27 with the T20I series, with India securing a 43-run win. In the second T20I, India secured a seven-wicket victory in a rain-affected match. Meanwhile, the Men in Blue clinched a win in the super-over in the third match.

Rohit is coming back in Indian colors after leading Men in Blue to a memorable seven-run against South Africa in the final of ICC T20 World Cup at Barbados on June 29.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka is on the back foot as their star pacer Matheesha Pathirana and Dilshan Madushanka are set to miss the ODI series against India. The hosts will take on India in the 50-over series without Dushmantha Chameera and Nuwan Thushara who are still not fit to play.

Pathirana sustained a shoulder injury while fielding in the third T20I of the series against India. Meanwhile, Madushanka suffered a hamstring injury while training, he had played only one match in the T20I series.

Speaking at the time of the toss, India skipper Rohit Sharma confirmed Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Kuldeep Yadav are back in the playing eleven.

“Good pitch. We have played a lot of cricket here and know the conditions. There has been a lot of changes; I am back, so is Virat, KL and Shreyas Iyer. Kuldeep also comes back in. Dube is also playing. We We had a great World Cup, we didn’t cross the finishing line but we have created an atmosphere where guys can come in and play with freedom. will bowl), I will focus on my batting. We have enough bowlers in the squad that can roll their arm over,” Rohit Sharma said.

Sri Lanka skipper Charith Asalanka said injury is a concern for the hosts but he is looking forward to the game.

“We are going to bat first. It looks like a dry pitch and that’s the reason. We are going with 6-5 combination. Shiraz is making his debut today. We have to improve our mental skills, we did some bad things in the last game but that is the past and we are looking forward to this game. It (injuries) is a concern as a captain but I am looking forward to going with my second line of bowling,” Charith Asalanka said.

  • Dhruv Jurel’s Instagram post goes viral with ‘Rohit’s Garden’ reference after India’s series win against Zimbabwe | Cricket News

India wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel’s latest Instagram post featuring another hilarious ‘garden’ reference has gone viral on social media. The Indian team is celebrating a brilliant 4-1 series victory against Zimbabwe, a strong comeback after surprisingly losing the series opener. The youngsters have shown they are ready to uphold the team’s legacy in the absence of senior cricketers Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja, who announced their T20I retirements after the World Cup win. The new talents stepped up, displaying resilience and skill throughout the series.

After the decisive win against Zimbabwe, Jurel posted a fun picture from the airport on social media. The photo also featured Abhishek Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, Ravi Bishnoi, and Avesh Khan. The post quickly garnered a lot of likes and comments, including a fun comment from senior player Suryakumar Yadav.

The ‘garden’ reference in Jurel’s post traces back to one of Rohit Sharma’s stump mic reactions during the Test series against England earlier this year. The incident occurred during the second Test in Visakhapatnam and went viral, sparking a meme fest online.

Sanju Samson played a pivotal role in India’s final match against Zimbabwe with a well-crafted half-century, while Mukesh Kumar delivered a disciplined bowling performance. Samson’s 58 runs helped India set a competitive total of 167/6, alongside Shivam Dube’s flashy 26 runs. The Indian bowlers then took charge, with Mukesh (4/22), Dube (2/25), and Washington Sundar (1/7) bundling out Zimbabwe for just 125 runs in the penultimate over of their innings. Samson and Riyan Parag added 65 runs for the fourth wicket, helping India recover from a middling Power Play where they scored 44/3.

India’s victory over Zimbabwe secured the series 4-1. As the team looks ahead, they are set to play Sri Lanka in a white-ball series beginning July 27. It will be interesting to see how many youngsters from the Zimbabwe series make it to the senior team for the upcoming matches.

The young players’ performance in the absence of seasoned veterans highlights the depth and potential within the Indian cricket team. Their ability to bounce back and dominate the series showcases the promising future of Indian cricket. Fans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming series against Sri Lanka and the continued emergence of new cricketing talents.

  • ‘Virat Kohli changed after power of captaincy…’, Amit Mishra makes shocking statement about former India captain | Cricket News

In the realm of Indian cricket, few players have seen the rise and evolution of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as closely as Amit Mishra. The veteran spinner, known for his sharp leg-breaks and astute observations, recently shared his candid thoughts on these two cricketing giants. Mishra’s revelations provide a fascinating glimpse into the contrasting personalities of Kohli and Sharma, highlighting how fame and leadership can shape an athlete’s demeanour.

“After getting fame, power and captaincy VIRAT KOHLI changed alot” – Amit mishra pic.twitter.com/hpvVXHFoRb

    — Shyam (@ShyamsundarGHS) July 16, 2024

Virat Kohli: The Transformation of a Cricket Star

Amit Mishra’s reflections on Virat Kohli paint a picture of a man transformed by the demands and responsibilities of captaincy. Kohli, who debuted for India in 2008, quickly rose to prominence with his aggressive batting and fiery spirit. However, Mishra notes a significant shift in Kohli’s personality as he ascended to the captaincy.

“Virat changed a lot after becoming captain,” Mishra said in an interview with Shubhankar Mishra on YouTube. “When you gain fame and power, it often alters how you interact with others. People start approaching you with different motives, and it’s easy to become guarded. I’ve known Virat since he was 14, back when he used to enjoy samosas and pizzas. There’s a stark difference between the young ‘Cheeku’ I knew and Virat Kohli the captain.”

Mishra’s comments resonate with those of other former teammates, including Yuvraj Singh, who also observed a change in Kohli post-captaincy. The pressures of leading a national team, coupled with the immense expectations from fans and media, seem to have created a more reserved and selective Kohli.

    Rohit Sharma: Consistency Amidst Success

In stark contrast, Mishra praises Rohit Sharma for maintaining his down-to-earth nature despite his staggering success. Sharma, who also debuted around the same time as Kohli, has carved out a niche as one of the most successful captains in IPL history and a dependable player for India.

“The best thing about Rohit is his consistency in behavior,” Mishra remarked. “From the day I met him to now, he’s the same person. He hasn’t let his success change who he is. Whether it’s winning the World Cup or leading Mumbai Indians to multiple IPL titles, Rohit remains approachable and friendly.”

Mishra’s anecdotes about Sharma highlight their enduring friendship. “Even though I haven’t been part of the Indian team for years, whenever I meet Rohit during IPL or other events, we joke around like old times. He’s always been very relaxed and easy to talk to, regardless of his achievements.”

    The Dynamics of Team India

The contrasting natures of Kohli and Sharma have certainly influenced their relationships within the Indian cricket team. Mishra’s insights suggest that while Sharma’s stable demeanor fosters camaraderie, Kohli’s transformation has created a more isolated figure.

“Virat has fewer friends in the team now,” Mishra noted. “His nature has changed with his rise to captaincy, which isn’t the case with Rohit. When a player remains true to himself, like Rohit, it’s easier to relate to them. Virat, on the other hand, has become more cautious and selective in his interactions.”

    The Bigger Picture

Mishra’s candid observations offer a deeper understanding of the pressures and transformations that come with being in the limelight. While Kohli’s journey reflects the challenges of maintaining personal relationships amidst growing responsibilities, Sharma’s story underscores the importance of staying grounded.

For fans and followers of Indian cricket, these insights provide a nuanced view of their idols beyond the boundary ropes. As the cricketing world continues to evolve, the personalities and dynamics within Team India will undoubtedly play a crucial role in shaping its future.

  • Rohit Sharma Zooms Past Babar Azam, Virat Kohli To Become Leading Run-Scorer In T20Is | Cricket News

Rohit Sharma’s brutal onslaught obliterated Australia pacers, leaving Aussie bowlers rattled with no answer as he propelled India to 205/5 in their Super 8 Group 1 clash of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium on Sunday. Put to bat first, India captain Rohit Sharma started off India’s charge with a boundary in the very first over of the match. His knock of 92 got him over Virat Kohli and Babar Azam to become the highest leading run-scorer in T20I cricket.

Virat has 4103 runs and Babar has 4145 after playing 123 games each in T20 internationals. Rohit now stands on top of the list with 4165 runs.

It was raining sixes in St Lucia as the captain batted like a dream mixing aggression with pure class while Suryakumar Yadav (31), Shivam Dube (28) and Hardik Pandya’s unbeaten power-pack knock of 27 took India to a formidable total. India hit 15 sixes in the innings, 8 of which came from Rohit’s bat. (WATCH: Rohit Sharma Runs Havoc On Mitchell Starc As Australia Pacer Gives Away 29 Runs In One Over During IND vs AUS)

Josh Hazlewood gave India a major blow as he outfoxed Virat Kohli in the second over with a bouncer. For Australia, Josh Hazlewood however kept things tight as he conceded just 10 off his 3 overs to ensure the powerplay ended at 60/1. Meanwhile, the Indian batting line-up destroyed Mitchell Starc, who conceded 45, while Pat Cummins gave away 0/48 and Marcus Stoinis returned with a figure of 2/56.

Hazlewood delivered a short, fastball with extra bounce, which caught Kohli off guard. Kohli attempted a pull shot, but only got a top edge that went wide mid-on and Tim David showed outstanding athleticism by sprinting back from inside the circle for 25 metres to make a well-judged catch, sending Kohli back to the pavilion without scoring from five balls faced.

This early exit aggravated Kohli’s problems in the competition, as his performance as an opener failed to provide the required results. In the third over, Rohit went berserk against Mitchell Starc as he hammered the pacer for 6,6,4,6,0,6, gathering 29 runs.

With fearless and courageous batting approach India captain slammed a 19-ball half-century also the fastest fifty of the ongoing tournament. Leg-spinner Adam Zampa was brought into the attack after the powerplay and the bowler was decimated by the Indian duo of Rohit and Rishabh Pant.

India lost their second wicket as Pant was out for 15. The wicketkeeper-batter tried to play one to the leg side, but Hazlewood, at mid-off, took a simple catch. India slammed 100 in just 8.4 overs.

Australia pacer Starc rattled Rohit’s stumps to give a major blow to India. The India captain missed a well-deserved hundred as he fell for 92 off 41 balls. Rohit’s wicket invited Shivam Dube to the crease and the batter deposited four into the mid-wicket region, leaving no respite for Zampa. After all Australia bowlers leaked runs it was Hazlewood, who kept the tight hold, ending his spell with 1/14 where most of his pals are going at 10s and 12s in an over.

In the 19th over, Shivam Dube fell prey to Marcus Stoinis after scoring 28 runs. Towards the end, Hardik Pandya chipped in with a quickfire cameo and Ravindra Jadeja played a useful hand too to get India past 200. Brief score: India 205/5 (Rohit Sharma 92, Suryakumar Yadav 31; Mitchell Starc 2/45) vs Australia . (With ANI inputs)

Babar Azam Gives Statement On Pakistan Loss

Pakistan captain Babar Azam bashed the batters of his team and praised the bowlers after Pakistan’s loss to India. He blamed the batters for wasting too many balls while trying to chase the subpar score of 120.

“We bowled well. In the batting, lost back to back wickets and had too much dot balls. Tactics was simple to play normally. Just strike rotation and the odd boundary. But in that period we had too many dot balls. Can’t expect much from tailenders. Our mind was to utilise first six overs in batting. But one wicket down, and again we weren’t up to the mark in first six. Pitch looked decent. Ball was coming on nicely. It was a little bit slow, and some balls extra bounce. Have to win last two matches. Will sit and discuss our mistakes but looking forward to last two matches,” Babar said in the post match press conference.

  • Babar Azam furious after Haris Rauf concedes last ball boundary against USA in T20 World Cup 2024- WATCH | Cricket News

Pakistan suffered a shocking defeat to the USA in their opening match of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas. This loss has put Pakistan’s campaign in jeopardy, significantly reducing their chances of reaching the Super 8s. Babar Azam was visibly upset with fast bowler Haris Rauf after he gave up 11 runs in the last three balls, forcing a Super Over in Dallas. Despite starting well, Rauf failed to defend 14 runs in the final over of the second innings. Babar Azam stormed off the field, expressing his frustration verbally, as Pakistan failed to defend 159 runs against the USA, who are playing their first T20 World Cup.

The Pakistan team struggled in the first 10 overs with the ball, putting pressure on themselves. However, the fast bowlers made a strong comeback in the second half, with wickets from Haris Rauf and Mohammed Amir keeping Pakistan in the game. Rauf, who had been bowling well, came to defend 15 runs in the final over but ended up giving away 14 runs, leading to the Super Over at the Grand Prairie Stadium.

Babar Azam’s frustration continued in the Super Over as Mohammed Amir gave up 18 runs against relatively unknown batters. Amir bowled multiple wide balls and overthrows, adding easy runs to the USA’s total. In the end, Pakistan failed to chase down the 19-run target in the Super Over, leading to one of the biggest upsets in T20 World Cup history.

    Pakistan’s Big Game Against India

Pakistan is in trouble after losing to the USA. Their next game against India will be almost like a knockout match. It will take place at Nassau County Stadium in New York on Sunday, June 9. Historically, Pakistan has struggled against India in T20 World Cups, losing six out of seven matches. However, Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, remains optimistic, saying the outcome will depend on which team stays composed.

  • Pakistan’s T20 Campaign Derailed After Loss to USA: Here’s How PAK Can Still Qualify for Super 8 – All Scenarios Explained | Cricket News

Pakistan suffered a shocking defeat to the USA in their opening match of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas. This loss has put Pakistan’s campaign in jeopardy, significantly reducing their chances of reaching the Super 8s. Coming into the World Cup with a shaky form—having lost two games to a second-string New Zealand, one T20I to Ireland, and a T20I series to England—Pakistan was expected to perform well in conditions favorable to fast bowlers. However, the USA displayed grit and determination, outplaying Pakistan in all departments to stun the 2022 runners-up.

    Pakistan’s Road To Qualification

To keep their hopes alive, Pakistan must win their next three matches. A crucial game against India is scheduled for June 9, and a victory is essential for Pakistan to have a realistic chance of advancing. Additionally, Pakistan needs to defeat both Canada and Ireland to bolster their qualification prospects.

If Pakistan loses to India, their chances become slim, even with wins against Canada and Ireland. This scenario arises because the USA could potentially accumulate more points than Pakistan. Even if the USA loses to Ireland and India, their superior run rate might give them an edge over Pakistan if Pakistan falls to India.

    Pakistan Qualification Scenarios Explained

Pakistan needs a minimum of six points from the four matches in the group stage. After the unexpected loss to the USA, the road ahead is challenging for the Asian giants.

If Pakistan win there all remaining matches and USA lose to India and Ireland Pakistan will directly qualify for the super 8 stage

Tough Qualification Scenario Result Pak vs Ind Ind Win Pak vs Ire Pak Win Pak vs Can Pak Win

In this case, Pakistan will have to hope that the USA loses to both India and Ireland, and that too by a large margin, so Pakistan can qualify based on net run rate. These are the only scenarios in which Pakistan can qualify for the Super 8 stage.

The Gary Kirsten-coached side must secure victories in all their remaining group-stage matches. Another loss would force Pakistan to rely on the results of other Group A matches to keep their Super 8 hopes alive.
