— ANI (@ANI) May 3, 2024Earlier, sources did say that Rahul Gandhi is likely to contest from Amethi, but a final announcement was awaited from the first family of the Congress. Amid the mounting suspense, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said that ‘nobody is scared.’ He further said that the party’s central election committee (CEC) had empowered Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge to finalise the candidates for Amethi and Rae Bareli.
Before the announcement, Ramesh said yesterday, “My expectation is that in the next 24-30 hours, the Congress president will finalise and a decision taken by him will be announced,” Ramesh said in response to a question at a press conference at the AICC headquarters here. “Till that is done all the information, all so-called office orders are fake.”
When asked why there was a delay in taking a decision and if the Congress was “scared” in fielding Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, Ramesh said yesterday, “There is no delay. Has the BJP announced its candidates in Rae Bareli? Smriti Irani is a sitting MP. Nobody is scared, discussions are ongoing, and the Congress president has been authorised.” “There is no delay, there is time till May 3,” he said.
The state leadership in Uttar Pradesh had already urged the central election committee and the party leadership to field Rahul Gandhi from Amethi and Priyanka from Rae Bareli. As speculation mounted, the Congress workers in Amethi on Tuesday also held a sit-in and demanded that the party name a member of the Gandhi family as its candidate from the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency.
Amethi Lok Sabha Seat
The Amethi seat has been represented by Rahul Gandhi since 2004 and he remained a member of Parliament from the constituency for three consecutive terms till 2019 when he was defeated by BJP’s Smriti Irani. Rahul Gandhi currently represents the Wayanad constituency in Kerala from where he had also contested in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Congress top leader Rahul Gandhi had earlier said that he will follow ‘whatever order’ he gets from his party.
Rae Bareli Lok Sabha Seat
The Rae Bareli constituency was represented by Sonia Gandhi from 2004 to 2024. Prior to that, Sonia Gandhi had represented the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency after she entered politics and contested for the first time in 1999. The seat has previously been represented by Sanjay Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi.
The Congress has forged an alliance with the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh and is contesting 17 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
When Is The Voting In Amethi And Rae Bareli?
The Amethi and Rae Bareli seats are all set to go to polls on May 20 in the fifth round of the seven-phase general elections. The Lok Sabha Elections are being held in seven phases starting April 19. The counting of votes will be taken up on June 4.

‘Takes Pride In Ghus Ke Marna…’: Former Pakistan Minister Fawad Chaudhary Attacks PM Narendra Modi After Praise For Rahul Gandhi |
The statement of Pakistan’s former Information and Broadcasting Minister, Fawad Chaudhary, has sparked a controversy in India. Chaudhary shared a post on social media praising Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, prompting the BJP to attack Congress and even Prime Minister Modi to accuse Congress of siding with Pakistan. Without naming Rahul Gandhi, PM Modi stated that Pakistan wants to see him as Prime Minister. Fawad Chaudhry has now launched a new attack on PM Modi via X (formerly Twitter).
“A friend advised me to balance and say something positive about #Modi since hours I am thinking what can be a positive in an Extremist, dogmatist and hater? Someone who take pride in “ghus k Marna” someone who justify killing people only because of faith? Who is demolishing mosques to change history and taking pride in extremist ideology?,” Chaudhary said in a X post.
Earlier on Wednesday, Fawad shared a video clip of Rahul Gandhi’s speech and praised the Congress leader. He captioned the post, “Rahul on fire.”
Rahul on fire …. https://t.co/6pi1mL0bQN
— Ch Fawad Hussain (@fawadchaudhry) May 1, 2024During his election rally in Gujarat’s Anand, PM Modi also mentioned Fawad Chaudhry’s post and accused the Congress and Pakistan of collaboration. While PM Modi accused the Congress of directly colluding with Pakistan under the guise of Fawad’s post, Rahul Gandhi demanded an explanation from PM Modi regarding Prajwal Ravanna’s sex scandal.
Rahul Gandhi did not respond to Fawad Chaudhry’s question, but BJP leaders are questioning why a Pakistani leader who spews venom against India would support Rahul Gandhi. Meanwhile, the Congress has criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and accused him of diverting attention away from the election issues by dragging Pakistan.
With just five days left for the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections, it is clear that, after issues like mangalsutra, wealth redistribution, and Muslim reservation, the mention of Pakistan will dominate BJP and PM Modi’s election campaign.

Kerala Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Voting Timings, Key Candidates And Phase 2 Polling Constituencies, Counting Date, rahul gandhi shashi tharoor |
Kerala Lok Sabha Elections 2024: 25.61% of polling was recorded till 11 am in Kerala’s 20 Lok Sabha seats for the 2024 general election after commencement of voting at 7am on Friday. People began arriving at the state’s over 25,000 polling booths early in the morning to avoid the expected hot weather later in the day. During the election, over 66,000 security personnel were deployed and a webcasting system was used to monitor the process.
Voting began with a mock poll that included votes for all candidates, including NOTA, listed on an EVM.
According to the EC’s instructions, at least 50 votes were cast in the mock poll, and actual polling began after the EVMs were cleared. Around 2.77 crore voters will decide the fate of the 194 candidates contesting the state’s 20 Lok Sabha constituencies. Will the BJP’s drought in Kerala end? Will Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sharp attack on the Congress boost turnout after a relatively muted voter enthusiasm last week? These are some of the questions on people’s minds ahead of the second phase of Lok Sabha elections.
Key Candidates In Fray In Kerala Lok Sabha Elections:
Among the notable candidates contesting in this phase are Congress leader Rahul Gandhi from Kerala’s Wayanad, where he faces the CPI’s Annie Raja and state BJP chief K. Surendran, and Congress’ Shashi Tharoor vs BJP’s Rajeev Chandrasekhar in Thiruvananthapuram.
Two union ministers, the majority of sitting MPs, a state minister, three actors, and a few MLAs were among the candidates who tried their political luck this time in Kerala, where the CPI(M)-led ruling LDF, the Congress-led UDF, and the BJP-led NDA all ran active and aggressive poll campaigns.
The BJP is relying on actor Suresh Gopi, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar, and Anil Antony, the son of veteran Congress leader A K Antony, to establish a presence in Kerala, which has never elected a BJP MP. Chandrasekhar faces three-time Congress MP Tharoor in Thiruvananthapuram.

‘Lies, Hate Speech’: Congress Claims PM Modi’s ‘Wealth To Muslims’ Remark Shows INDIA Is Winning 1st Phase Of Polls |
In a fiery rebuttal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s allegations, the Congress party claimed on Sunday that the PM has resorted to “lies” and “hate speech” to divert the public’s attention away from real issues, following a “disappointment” in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections. The counterattack came in response to PM Modi’s claim that if Congress wins power, it will redistribute wealth to Muslims, citing former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s statement that the minority community has the first claim to the country’s resources.
At a rally in Rajasthan’s Banswara, Modi claimed that the Congress intends to distribute people’s hard-earned money and valuables to “infiltrators” and “those who have more children”.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge retaliated, claiming that no prime minister in India’s history has degraded the dignity of the office more than Modi. He accused Modi of using “lies” and “hate speech” to divert attention, and claimed that the Prime Minister’s actions reflect the values of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
Kharge also claimed that lying for power, making false references, and levelling baseless accusations against opponents are hallmarks of the Sangh and BJP’s training. He promised that the country’s 140 crore people would no longer fall for such “lies”.
Kharge siad that the Congress manifesto is for all Indians and promotes equality and justice for all, claiming that the party’s Nyaya Patra is founded on truth.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stated that after “disappointment” in the first phase of voting, “the level of lies of Narendra Modi has fallen so much that he now wants to divert the people’s attention from the issues as he is rattled”.
The trends of massive support for Congress’ “revolutionary manifesto” have begun to emerge, Gandhi stated in a Hindi post on X.
“The country will now vote on its issues, including employment, family, and the future. “India will not be diverted,” the former Congress chief stated.
In his remarks in Rajasthan, Modi said, “The Congress manifesto states that they will calculate the gold with mothers and sisters, gather information about it, and then distribute that property. They will distribute it to whom- – Manmohan Singh’s government stated that Muslims have the first right to the country’s assets.”
“Previously, when their (Congress) government was in power, they stated that Muslims have first priority over the country’s assets. This means, to whom will this property be distributed? “It will be distributed to those who have more children,” the prime minister stated.
The Congress has stated that its manifesto does not mention “redistribution” and that it supports a “comprehensive socio-economic caste census”.
