  • ‘Modi Govt’s Objective Is To Stay In Power By Spreading Anger, Hatered’: Priyanka Gandhi’s Sharp Attack On PM In Wayanad |

Priyanka Gandhi In Wayanad: Senior Congress leader and party candidate for Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday lashed out at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government, alleging that he aims to stay in power by any means possible and he gives priority to big business interests over the well-being of the people.

Priyanka Gandhi, who was in Wayanad to hold an election campaign in the Lok Sabha constituency ahead of the bypolls, alleged that the Modi government wants to remain in power by dividing people, spreading hatred, and oppressing democratic institutions.

While addressing a rally in Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra trained her guns at PM Modi and said, “Modi ji’s government works only for his big businessman friends. His objective is not to give you a better life. It is not to find new jobs.”

“It is not to provide better health or education initiatives and programs. It is simply to stay in power by any means possible. And what are those means? Those means are dividing you, spreading anger, spreading hatred amongst you, taking your rights away from you, oppressing democratic institutions,” she added.

The senior Congress leader hailed the people of Wayanad for standing up for what is right and fighting against oppressors.

“This land where all of you live together no matter what religion you are from. You have a courageous and strong history of leaders like Pazhassi Raja, Thalakkal Chanthu, and Edachena Kunkan. You have always fought for what is right; you have always fought against oppressors; you have always fought for equality,” the Congress leader said.

During the election campaign, Priyanka Gandhi was accompanied by her brother and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. She also praised the people of Wayanad for supporting her brother Rahul Gandhi.

“When my brother, Rahul Gandhi ji, was facing massive difficulties, he was being attacked every day by the BJP. A huge campaign was launched against him to tarnish his reputation; it was you, my brothers and sisters, who recognized that this man is fighting for what is right; he is fighting for the truth, and you stood by him; you supported him and gave him the courage to fight,” she said.

Wayanad, a Congress bastion, is set to witness a contest between the grand old party’s candidate Priyanka Gandhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Navya Haridas, and the Left candidate Sathyan Mokeri in the upcoming bypolls.

Priyanka Gandhi is contesting from the Wayanad constituency as a United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate and is seeking election from the seat her brother Rahul Gandhi vacated.

Wayanad’s seat was vacated by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after he was also elected to Lok Sabha from Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh in the general elections held earlier this year.

Wayanad will go to the polls on November 13 along with voting for bye-elections in 47 assembly seats across 15 states. The first phase of assembly polls in Jharkhand will also be held on November 13.

  • Massive Turnout In Kalpetta As Priyanka Gandhi Kicks Off Campaign For Wayanad Bypoll |

WAYANAD: Thousands of people, including UDF leaders and workers, gathered in Kalpetta on Wednesday to participate in a massive roadshow welcoming Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, as she prepares to make her electoral debut by filing nomination papers for the upcoming Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll. Priyanka, who arrived in the hill district on Tuesday night along with her mother — Congress Parliamentary party chairperson Sonia Gandhi — led the roadshow along with her brother — Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi — from the new bus stand at Kalpetta.

Priyanka’s husband, Robert Vadra, and one of their children were also seen along with her in the open-roof vehicle along with other senior party and IUML leaders during the roadshow.

UDF workers and supporters as well as members of the general public of all age groups, who were waiting since early morning, welcomed her carrying placards with Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi’s photographs, balloons in the party colours and drum beats.

Balloons in the party colours of the Congress and its ally Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) also lined both sides of the nearly two kilometer long roadshow route. Green flags of IUML and the tricolour of the Congress, which were absent during Rahul Gandhi’s roadshow in April this year, were also seen, but in very few numbers.

Priyanka would be contesting against LDF’s Sathyan Mokeri and BJP’s Navya Haridas. The by-election for Wayanad LS seat became necessary after Rahul Gandhi, who won the Lok Sabha polls from there and Rae Bareli constituency, decided to vacate Wayanad.

  • Wayanad Lok Sabha Bypolls: Priyanka Gandhi To File Nomination On This Date |

Wayanad Lok Sabha Bypolls: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is set to file her nomination for the upcoming Wayanad Lok Sabha bypolls on Wednesday, October 23. She will be accompanied by Lok Sabha LoP and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. Vadra will file her nomination papers after a roadshow with Rahul Gandhi to the Wayanad Collectorate.

Soon after the Election Commission announced the Wayanad bypoll, the Congress declared that Priyanka Gandhi would be its candidate from the seat in Kerala.

Days after the Lok Sabha elections 2024, the Congress had announced in June itself that Rahul Gandhi will retain the Rae Bareli parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh, previously held by former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, and vacate the Wayanad seat in Kerala, from where his sister Priyanka Gandhi is set for her electoral debut.

If she bags the seat, this will be the first time that Priyanka Gandhi will enter the Lower House. This will also be the first time that the three Gandhi family members—Sonia, Rahul, and Priyanka—will be in Parliament together.

Meanwhile, senior CPI leader Sathyan Mokeri will be the LDF candidate for the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll. The decision was announced on Thursday by CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam.

On Saturday, Mokeri launched his election campaign and took a pot shot at Priyanka Gandhi, questioning whether she would be present in the constituency on winning from here.

Senior CPI leader Mokeri had contested the Lok Sabha polls from Wayanad in 2014, significantly reducing the then Congress candidate M. I. Shanavas’s winning margin to around 20,000 votes. Amidst his poll campaign in Wayanad, Mokeri questioned what surety was there that Priyanka would remain in the hill district after her win.

“Look at the stand taken by Rahul Gandhi. He won and then left. How many days was he here? Those who come to contest like this and then leave cannot address the developmental and other problems faced by the people of the constituency,” he said.

Mokeri also said that there is no answer from the Congress-led UDF as to why they are contesting elections here where democratic and left forces are strong and the fascist groups are weak.

  • Priyanka Mocks UP’s New Social Media Policy As ‘Regressive’, Says ‘If You Call Day As Night, Then It Is Night…’ |

The Uttar Pradesh government, facing flak over its new social media policy, came under attack from Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday, as she mocked the scheme as a ‘regressive and self-eulogizing’ move.  Priyanka Gandhi, taking to X, shared a satirical post, saying “You will say what you like. If you call day as night, it will be night.” Firing a volley of questions, she questioned the state government on ensuring the security of women and also asked what steps it has taken to resolve the recruitment reservation case, concerning 69,000 teachers.

“In which category will the voices of women seeking justice fall in the social media policy of the Uttar Pradesh government? In which category will the questions raised in the 69000 teacher recruitment reservation scam fall? In which category would exposing the BJP government by BJP leaders and MLAs fall?” asked Priyanka Gandhi.

Notably, two girls were found hanging from a tree in Farrukhabad district on Wednesday, sending shockwaves in the city and leaving the state administration searching for answers. The Congress leader further accused the Yogi Adityanath government of stifling the freedom of speech and suppressing the truth by issuing such ‘diktats’.

She said that the state government rather than resolving people’s issues was finding ‘new ways’ to suppress the truth. “The policy of ‘if you call day as night, then it is night or else jail’ is another way of suppressing the truth. Can the BJP not think of anything more than crushing democracy and the Constitution?” she further said.

The UP cabinet on Wednesday gave nod to Uttar Pradesh Digital Media Policy 2024, which broadly has two components — one is encouragement for popularising the government’s schemes while another is about crackdown for objectionable and offensive posts on social media.

Soon after the policy details filtered into the public domain, Opposition parties cried foul and claimed that it was a blatant attempt to quell freedom of speech as this would allow the state administration to ‘torture and terrorise’ people even for speaking the truth.

  • ‘Helpless Modiji Just A Spectator…’: Priyanka Gandhi Blames BJP For NEET-UG ‘Leak’, Exam Cancellations |

New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing controversy on the NEET 2024 medical exam, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra attacked the Modi-led BJP government on Sunday and said that the ‘helpless’ Prime Minister is just watching the spectacle of the youth of the country who is wasting their prestigious time and energy in fighting against BJP’s corruption.

The response comes after NTA decided to postpone the NEET-PG 2024 medical exam on Saturday. Congress leaders accused that under the BJP government entire education system has been given to the mafia and corrupt people.

“The political stubbornness and arrogance of handing over the country’s education and the future of the children to greedy and sycophantic incompetent people have made paper leaks, cancellation of exams, the disappearance of education from campuses and political hooliganism the identity of our education system,” she wrote in Hindi on her official social media handle X.

She further added that the  BJP government cannot conduct even an examination fairly and become the single biggest hurdle in front of the future of the youth.

  • BREAKING: Priyanka Gandhi Might Contest Elections From Wayanad – Sources |

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra might fight elections from Wayanad, as per the sources. Rahul Gandhi, who contested from two seats — Rae Bareli and Wayanad, won both constituencies by huge margins.

Rahul Gandhi won the seat of Rae Bareli by defeating BJP’s Dinesh Pratap Singh by a margin of 3,90,030 votes. Gandhi had contested this seat aiming to save the lone bastion of the party in the state after he lost Amethi in 2019.

The Congress leader also won the seat of Wayanad, which paved his entry to the Lok Sabha in 2019. He defeated Communist Party of India-Marxist candidate Annie Raja by 3,64,422 votes.

According to the Election Commission of India, BJP won 240 seats, much lower than its 2019 tally of 303. The Congress, on the other hand, registered a strong improvement winning 99 seats. The INDIA bloc crossed the 230 mark, posing stiff competition, and defying all predictions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has secured a third term, but the BJP will need the support of other parties in coalition primarily — JD (U) chief Nitish Kumar and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu.

  • 108 Public Meetings, Roadshows, Over 100 Media Bytes: Priyanka Gandhi’s Campaign In 2024 Lok Sabha Polls |

New Delhi: As the election campaign of the Lok Sabha polls ended on Thursday, Congress’ star campaigner Priyanka Gandhi’s marathon election campaign in this poll season clocked 108 public meetings and roadshows, more than 100 media bytes, one television interview, and five print interviews spread over the last 55 days, the party said.

Priyanka Gandhi, who campaigned in 16 states and one union territory, hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attack on the Congress party and his allegations in a measured manner. Her speeches garnered adequate attention in this election as she shattered the Prime Minister and the Bharatiya Janata Party’s efforts to misdirect the narrative, the Congress said.

Gandhi’s dialogue, conversation style, gentleness, simplicity, and humility received much praise from the public.

Gandhi concluded her Lok Sabha election campaign with a huge road show in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan. After offering prayers to Hanuman at Jakhu temple, Gandhi held her last road show of this poll campaign at Solan, in which thousands participated.

In her 55-day strong election campaign, Priyanka Gandhi also addressed two conferences of thousands of workers in Amethi and Rae Bareli.

Sharpening the Congress’ election campaign, Gandhi held two to three public meetings and road shows every day. The most vigorous campaign was conducted in Rae Bareli and Amethi, where she participated in an average of 8-10 meetings, welcome ceremonies, or road shows every day.

Gandhi also camped in Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh during this election season and brought life to the election campaign in Karnataka and Kerala. She also camped in prominent constituencies in Assam and Tripura.

In the course of her campaign, Gandhi covered the seats of Garhwal and Kumaon in Uttarakhand, Marathwada and the north of Maharashtra, Mysore in Karnataka, Kalyana-Karnataka, the Kittur region in Karnataka, and the Malwa region of Punjab, the Congress said.

Priyanka Gandhi covered seats of tribal majority areas in Jharkhand, Marwar in Rajasthan, Eastern Rajasthan, Jaipur, Matsya region (Alwar) of Rajasthan, Durg division, Bastar division, Raigarh division of Chhattisgarh, and Chambal seats of Madhya Pradesh.

The crowd that came to Priyanka Gandhi’s public meetings or road show in Saharanpur, Dhubri, Fatehpur Sikri, Sirsa, Nandurbar, Kullu, Wayanad, Zahirabad, and Varanasi broke all records, the party said.

  • LS Polls: Congress Finalises Most Candidates For Six States, First List Likely Today |

New Delhi: Congress election committee, headed by party president Mallikarjun Kharge, met on Thursday night and finalised most of the candidates for six of the ten states it was considering for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The first list of candidates will be released on Friday, sources said to Zee News Television.

Senior party leader KC Venugopal, who attended the meeting along with former chief Sonia Gandhi, said that a formal announcement will be made soon. “We finalised seats from Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Delhi and Lakshadweep… The procedure is going on, formal announcement will be made very soon,” he told reporters.

Zee News’ sources said that Rahul Gandhi, who is leading the party’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Jaipur, did not join the meeting virtually as he was expected to. His name for the Wayanad seat in Kerala has been suggested by the party’s screening committee. He is likely to contest from the seat again, as he is the sitting MP from there.

However, it is not clear yet if Rahul Gandhi will also contest from Amethi, his old bastion, or if Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the party’s general secretary, will make her electoral debut. There is a strong demand among Congress workers for Priyanka Gandhi to contest from Raebareli, the seat vacated by her mother Sonia Gandhi to contest Rajya Sabha polls.

Some of the likely names in the first list are Shashi Tharoor from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, Bhupesh Baghel from Rajnandgaon, Tamradhwaj Sahu from Durg, Jyotsna Mahant from Korba, and Shiv Dehariya from Janjgir-Champa in Chhattisgarh. All the key leaders from Chhattisgarh will be in the fray, sources said to Zee News TV.

In Karnataka, which has a Congress government, the party has not decided on 4-5 seats yet. The party will not field state ministers, sources said, as most of them are reluctant to contest the national elections. Two ministers have openly expressed their reservations. Only one minister could be a candidate if he chooses to contest, sources added.

Among the candidates from Karnataka is DK Suresh, the brother of state party chief DK Shivakumar and a party MP. The party has not taken a decision on Kalburgi, the seat of Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge. There were reports that Kharge’s son-in-law Radhakrishna Doddamani was a frontrunner for the ticket, but the seat was not discussed at the meeting

The Delhi Congress unit submitted a long list of candidates for the seven Lok Sabha seats in the capital. The high command asked the unit to shortlist some names and come back for the final approval. Sources said that the names of JP Agrawal, Sandeep Dikshit, and Alka Lamba were considered for the Chandni Chowk seat.

From Northeast Delhi, the names of Arvinder Singh Lovely and Anil Chowdhary were proposed. From Northwest Delhi, the names of Rajkumar Chauhan and Udit Raj were in contention. The committee will meet again on Monday to finalise the remaining candidates.

  • Priyanka Gandhi Likely To Make Lok Sabha Poll Debut From Raebareli; Rahul To Contest From Amethi And Wayanad |

NEW DELHI: After much anticipation, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is likely to make her electoral debut from Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, a constituency held by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for three terms, sources said on Wednesday. This move comes as Priyanka’s mother, former party chief Sonia Gandhi, announced her decision not to seek re-election from Raebareli, a seat she had secured five times in the past, including in 2019 when she emerged as the sole Congress victor in UP.

Rahul Gandhi To Contest From Amethi And Wayanad

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi is poised to reclaim the Congress stronghold of Amethi, which he lost to BJP’s Smriti Irani in a surprising defeat in 2019. Importantly, Rahul will also contest from Wayanad in Kerala, a seat he won in the previous general election, ensuring his Lok Sabha status.

Priyanka Gandhi’s foray into electoral politics has been long-awaited, with speculations rife after Sonia Gandhi’s withdrawal from Raebareli. The striking resemblance between Priyanka and her grandmother, Indira Gandhi, has not escaped the notice of constituents. Posters urging Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to contest from Raebareli have surfaced in the constituency, reflecting the anticipation among locals for her candidacy.

    Awaiting BJP’s Move

The BJP is yet to announce its candidate for Raebareli, following its defeat by a significant margin in 2019. However, it has been confirmed that Smriti Irani will defend her seat in Amethi, setting the stage for a high-stakes electoral battle in Uttar Pradesh.

As Priyanka Gandhi prepares to step into the electoral arena from Raebareli, and Rahul Gandhi gears up to reclaim Amethi, the political landscape in Uttar Pradesh braces for intense competition ahead of the upcoming elections.

  • Priyanka Gandhi Hospitalised, Skips Rahul-Led Nyay Yatra As It Enters Uttar Pradesh Today |

New Delhi: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will not be joining the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Uttar Pradesh on Friday to bad health conditions. “I was eagerly waiting for the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra to reach Uttar Pradesh, but due to illness I had to be admitted to the hospital today itself,” the leader informed via X (formerly Twitter). The Yatra is currently in Bihar and is scheduled to reach Chandauli in UP after concluding the halt in Bihar. UP is the crucial Hindi state that elects the most MPs to the Lok Sabha.

Gandhi further wrote that she will be joining the journey as soon as she feels better. “Till then, I wish all the passengers reaching Chandauli-Banaras, my colleagues and dear brother from Uttar Pradesh who are diligently preparing for the journey,” she added.

Nyay Yatra’s Route Not Shortened In UP: Cong

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that the yatra has not been shortened in Uttar Pradesh as it will stay in the key Hindi state for eight days from 16th to 21st February before continuing to western Uttar Pradesh on 24th and 25th February.  Earlier, UPCC chief Ajay Rai had notified that the UP leg of Nyay Yatra has been revised and reduced due to the ongoing UP Board exams.

Rai said that the changes were made due to logistical issues. He said that the places where the workers and organisers were supposed to stay are mostly private schools or colleges which will now be used for the board exams.

The omission of western UP from Rahul’s itinerary is important as it comes after RLD broke away from INDIA bloc. The Congress has a very weak presence in western UP and the party does not have any influential leader in the region. A senior leader said that they do not want to give an impression that Rahul’s presence in a certain area did not help them win seats.

Rahul Gandhi, the former head of Congress, is spearheading the Nyay Yatra from Manipur to Mumbai. The yatra is now in Bihar. The Manipur-Mumbai Yatra from East to West covers 6,700 km across 15 states and aims to spread the message of “nyay” (justice) while interacting with ordinary people along the way.
