  • Shaheen Afridi Should Go And Play First-Class Cricket: Former Pakistan Cricketer Basit Ali Blasts After Big Loss To Bangladesh | cricket news

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali feels Shaheen Afridi should be rested after he delivered yet another underwhelming performance in the 10-wicket loss against Bangladesh in the opening Test. In the opening Test against Bangladesh, Shaheen picked up two wickets in the first innings while giving away 88 runs.

After failing to make an impact with the new ball, Shaheen’s two scalps came towards the tail end. He opened his account by removing Mehidy Hasan Miraz and sent Hasan Mahmud back for an 18-ball duck.

His dwindling form stretches back to the T20 World Cup earlier this year. The 24-year-old failed to deliver the goods and ended the campaign with five wickets in four matches, averaging 21.00.

“Shaheen Afridi should be rested 100 per cent. He should go and play first-class cricket. He should be rested. Ali S put in a lot of effort. Pakistan failed in bowling, fielding and batting. They beat us in all departments. It is wrong to say that the team had a bad day,” Basit said on his YouTube channel.

While Pakistan tried to figure out the various aspects that went wrong for them, Bangladesh celebrated a landmark moment in their history. Bangladesh’s win came after 14 encounters with Pakistan, where the Tigers had suffered 12 defeats and managed just one draw.

India and South Africa are now the only teams that Bangladesh has yet to defeat in Test cricket.

The match had a delayed beginning caused by a wet outfield, but by the fifth day, the entire affair had transformed into an enticing action-packed thriller.

The emphatic 10-wicket triumph provided Bangladesh with a significant boost in the ICC World Test Championship standings. They leapfrogged Pakistan and South Africa to the sixth spot, tied on point percentage with Sri Lanka (40 per cent). As a result of the loss, Pakistan slipped down to eighth place with a 30.56 point percentage.

After trailing 1-0, with an aim to go level in the series, Pakistan will face Bangladesh in the second Test at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on August 30.

  • Shaheen Shah Afridi’s Unique Wicket Celebration For Newborn Son Goes Viral During Test Against Bangladesh- WATCH | cricket news

Pakistan’s fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi marked the birth of his first child in a memorable way during the opening Test against Bangladesh at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Shaheen and his wife, Ansha, welcomed their son, whom they named Ali Yar. Despite initial speculations that Shaheen might skip the Test series for the birth of his child remarks made by Pakistan’s red-ball coach, Jason Gillespie the determined pacer chose to represent his country in the match.

In the game, Shaheen had to put in considerable effort to claim his wickets as Bangladesh secured a substantial lead of 117 runs in their first innings. Known for his usual celebration style of raising his arms after taking a wicket, Shaheen chose to celebrate differently this time. After claiming his first wicket of the match, he performed a cradling gesture to honor his newborn son, showcasing his happiness and pride. The celebration came after Bangladesh batsman Hasan Mahmud attempted a shot on the on-side, only to edge the ball. Mohammad Rizwan made no mistake in taking the catch, allowing Shaheen to open his wicket tally. Later in the innings, Shaheen dismissed Mehidy Hasan Miraz, ending with respectable figures of 30 overs, conceding 88 runs and taking two wickets.

    Pakistan Struggling Against Bangladesh

On the cricketing front, Pakistan displayed an inconsistent performance on what was considered an excellent pitch for batting. While they managed to post a decent score initially, led by Shan Masood, the team’s bowlers struggled to maintain the momentum. Bangladesh capitalized on the favorable batting conditions, with Mushfiqur Rahim scoring a remarkable 191 runs and Shadman Islam contributing a solid 93. These significant innings ensured that Bangladesh comfortably surpassed Pakistan’s total, putting the hosts on the back foot as the match progressed.

  • PAK vs BAN: Rizwan’s Camaraderie With Babar Steals The Show In Pakistan’s First Test Against Bangladesh- WATCH | cricket news

PAK vs BAN: The camaraderie between Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam was evident on Day 2 of the first Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh on Thursday. This moment of friendship unfolded after Pakistan declared their first innings at a formidable 448/6. Rizwan, the star of the innings, had delivered an unbeaten 171 off 239 balls. As Rizwan made his way back to the dressing room, the Pakistan players lined up near the boundary to applaud his stellar performance. Rizwan playfully tossed his bat towards Babar Azam, who caught it with a smile, and the two shared a light-hearted laugh. A viral video circulating on social media also captured Rizwan and Babar sharing another laugh while fielding against Bangladesh, highlighting their strong bond.

Focusing on the match itself, Rizwan, along with Saud Shakeel, played pivotal roles in guiding Pakistan to an imposing total of 448/6 declared. Rizwan’s unbeaten 171 was his highest score in Test cricket and marked his third century in the format, while Shakeel impressed with a composed 141. Their efforts helped Pakistan recover from a shaky start on the first day, where they were struggling at 16-3. Shakeel, combining with Saim Ayub, forged a crucial 98-run partnership for the fourth wicket, stabilizing Pakistan’s innings. Following this, Rizwan and Shakeel shared a massive 240-run partnership, effectively blunting Bangladesh’s bowling attack and putting Pakistan in a commanding position.

At the close of the second day, Bangladesh’s openers showed resilience, reaching 27-0 without any major issues. Shadman Islam was unbeaten on 12, while Zakir Hasan remained not out on 11. Despite initial concerns that the Rawalpindi pitch might favor bowlers, it turned out to be more conducive to batting.

David Hemp, Bangladesh’s batting coach, expressed hope that his team’s batsmen could match Pakistan’s performance. “It’s a pretty good batting pitch, and we hope it continues like this,” said Hemp. “Our batters need to match Pakistan’s batters, and we need to get closer to their total.”

Earlier, Pakistan’s lower order added quick runs, with Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi putting together a brisk 44-run partnership. Afridi contributed a quickfire 29 not out, including two sixes and a boundary. This late surge allowed Pakistan to declare their innings 78 minutes after tea, setting the stage for Bangladesh’s response.

  • Pakistan’s Javelin Star Arshad Nadeem Receives Heroic Welcome In Lahore After Historic Olympic Gold- WATCH | Other

Paris Olympics 2024: Arshad Nadeem, despite facing challenges and limited facilities in his preparations for the Paris Olympics, was celebrated as a hero upon his return to Lahore. Pakistan recognized his extraordinary achievement with a grand welcome. Earlier, Nadeem surprised everyone with a monster throw of 92.97m on Friday (August 9) including Neeraj Chopra. He won gold medal for Pakistan and scripted history for Pakistan at the Olympics. Interestingly, he had two monster throws of 90m plus in his five attempts whereas Chopra failed to breach the 90m mark yet again.

Nadeem wasn’t the top contender in the men’s javelin throw, with much of the attention focused on Neeraj Chopra, who had claimed gold at the Tokyo Olympics three years earlier. However, while Chopra faced injury issues and had a subdued performance, Nadeem delivered an outstanding throw of 92.97 meters on his second attempt, securing the gold medal. This remarkable throw not only shattered the Olympic record of 90.57 meters set by Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen at the 2008 Beijing Games but also made Nadeem Pakistan’s first-ever individual gold medalist at the Olympics. It was the country’s first Olympic medal since the 1992 Barcelona Games.

Upon arriving at Lahore airport on Sunday, Nadeem was greeted with a water cannon salute and a rapturous reception from thousands of fans. He was met by his family, including his father, who draped a garland around his neck as the crowd chanted, “Long Live Arshad Nadeem! Long Live Pakistan!” Following this, he enjoyed a victory parade through the city in an open bus. Approximately 150 security personnel, along with an elite convoy, ensured his safety throughout the celebrations.

In recognition of his historic accomplishment, various provincial governments and organizations had already announced cash rewards. Additionally, President Asif Ali Zardari declared that Nadeem would be honored with Pakistan’s second-highest civilian award, the Hilal-i-Imtiaz.

“I am grateful to God, my parents, and the Pakistani nation,” Nadeem told the cheering crowd. “This success is the result of immense hard work by me and my coach, Salman Butt.”

In 2015, Nadeem started competing in javelin throw events and quickly made his mark. In 2016, he got bronze at the South Asian Games in Guwahati, India with a national record of 78.33 meters. Nadeem made a name for himself during the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar when he became the only athlete to compete in the competition. Nadeem’s story from a school boy who was interested in sports to an Olympic record-breaker is an example that anyone can achieve everything with hardwork and dedication.

  • Pro-Pakistan Slogans In Delhi House: Police Probing Terror Angle |

New Delhi: A man was arrested in Rohini after receiving a complaint that he had written pro-Pakistan slogans on the wall of his flat, officials said. The incident came to light after a video filmed by a resident of capital city’s Avantika area garnered attention on social media. In the clip, the resident begins by sharing his location (Avantika C-Block) and then discusses having received information about a nearby building covered in pro-Pakistan slogans.

The local points out the building that he asserts has pro-Pakistan posters. He then enters the building with a group of people, including police officers. Inside, he shows the viewers the posters and comments that it looks like the building is occupied by a ‘terrorist organization.’ The posters feature extensive messages about Pakistan, and one prominently displays the phrase “Long Live Pakistan.”

The apartment featured in the clip appears small and dimly lit, cluttered with utensils and old, rusty furniture. As they proceed into a dark room with almost no visibility, they discover an elderly man sitting on the floor, seemingly holding an alcoholic beverage. The man becomes visible only when some individuals switch on their mobile flashlights.

The local then starts questioning the individual, asking why he is engaging in such actions while residing in India. Meanwhile, others present can be heard suggesting the man appears mentally unstable and shouting remarks like, “(Tujhe Pakistan jaana hain toh Pakistan jaa) If you want to go to Pakistan, then go to Pakistan!”

The individual being questioned seemed in an intoxicated state, he insisted, “Only one person will ask a question at a time; I will not answer otherwise.” When one person complies and asks why he is acting this way, he responds, “It is my love for Pakistan.” He then continues to question why everyone is interrogating him. Those present there warned him by saying that he should not engage in such behavior while in India.

“We got information from locals that a man staying at Avantika C-Block area of Rohini wrote some slogans supporting Pakistan on a wall of his flat. Initial investigation suggested that the man is not mentally stable and stays in the flat alone,” a senior police officer told PTI.

The officer further stated that they were investigating whether the man had any ties to Pakistan or any organisation.

  • Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s PPP Challenges SC Verdict Allocating Reserved Seats To Imran Khan’s Party. world news

ISLAMABAD: The Bilawal Bhutto Zardari-led Pakistan Peoples Party on Tuesday challenged the Supreme Court verdict allocating reserved seats to jailed former prime minister Imran Khan’s party a week after its ruling coalition partner Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) submitted a review petition. , according to a media report. On July 12, a 13-member full bench of the apex court ruled that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was eligible for the seats reserved for women and minorities in the National Assembly and provincial assemblies, which would make Imran Khan’s party. the largest in Parliament.

Although several leaders from the ruling coalition were apprehensive of the Supreme Court’s judgment, it was Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of PML-N party supremo Nawaz Sharif, who launched a salvo against the Supreme Court verdict saying, “I would like to Ask the SC judges to let the country function.” Maryam expressed her surprise and questioned the legitimacy of reinstating individuals she described as “criminals of the nation”, The Express Tribune newspaper reported.

The PPP’s review petition seeks to overturn the July 12 decision that previously annulled the decisions of the Peshawar High Court and the Election Commission of Pakistan directing that the reserved seats be allocated to PTI.

This ruling affirmed PTI’s status as a legitimate party within Parliament and provincial assemblies and if implemented in letter and spirit, the party will become the largest in the National Assembly as its seats will soar from 86 to 109 after it gains 23 seats reserved for women and minorities. The ruling PML-N party-led government on July 15 already filed a review petition in the Supreme Court against its decision to allocate reserved seats to PTI.

The Supreme Court has scheduled the hearing of the review petitions after the September holidays. However, Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, dissenting from the majority decision, argued that the summer holidays should be canceled to address the review petitions promptly, the report said. Isa emphasized that the Constitution should take precedence over the convenience of judges, stating that delaying the hearing would be unfair, the newspaper said.

  • Love-Stricken By Pakistan, Turkey Imposes Secret Ban On Defense Export To India: Reports | world news

India and Turkey’s relations have never been in sync for the last decade and it appears that Ankara’s close ties with Pakistan are set to prove the final nail in the coffin of its relations with New Delhi. Turkey has imposed this discreet ban in favor of Pakistan, according to reports. A Turkish government official disclosed this information during a closed-door session in the Turkish Parliament.

According to the minutes of the Foreign Affairs Committee debate on July 10, 2024, Mustafa Murat Seker, deputy chairman of the Presidency of the Defense Industry (SSB), Turkey’s leading arms procurement agency, inadvertently revealed the government’s secret policy regarding India. Virtually, India has been blacklisted by Turkey when it comes to defense export.

Turkish–Indian relations have deteriorated significantly over the past decade under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s administration, primarily due to policy decisions, particularly Ankara’s unwavering support for Pakistan in its conflicts with India.

According to NordicMonitor, President Erdogan’s clandestine paramilitary group SADAT, led by his former chief military aide Adnan Tanriverdi, has been implicated in anti-India activities. The group recruited Syed Ghulam Nabi Fai, a Kashmiri-born individual who served time in a US federal prison, to gather resources against India.

Fai’s US-based organization, the Kashmiri American Council (KAC), which received funding from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), collaborated with SADAT’s front organization, the Union of NGOs of the Islamic World (Islam Dünyasi Sivil Toplum Kuruluslari Birligi, IDSB ).

However, Turkey’s ban is not going to affect India. India has already revoked a $2-billion naval deal with a Turkish defense company and canceled defense exports to Ankara. With New Delhi focusing on Make In India in defence, the manufacturing of indigenous arms and ammunition has touched a record high in recent years. The value of defense production in FY 2022-23 was Rs 1,08,684 crore. In the last five years (since 2019-20), the value of defense production has been increasing steadily, and grown by over 60%.

India’s defense exports have also surged recently. It may be recalled that defense exports touched a record-high of Rs 21,083 crore in FY 2023-24, reflecting a growth of 32.5% over the last fiscal when the figure was Rs 15,920 crore.

  • The end of Imran Khan’s political party? Sharif Government To Ban Pakistan-Tehreek-e-Insaaf |

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Information Minister Atta Tarar announced on Monday that the government plans to file a case seeking to ban Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, Dawn reported.

During a press briefing, Tarar, emphasised the necessity of moving the country forward without PTI’s presence: “The federal government has decided to ban PTI.” He cited “credible evidence” as the basis for this decision.

Tarar further disclosed that the government intends to file a review petition with the Supreme Court of Pakistan challenging its recent ruling. Last week, the court had ruled in favour of PTI’s eligibility for reserved seats for women and minorities, Dawn reported.

Responding to the news conference by Tarar, Naeem Haider Panjutha, Spokesperson for Imran Khan on Legal Affairs said that the Government had no right to ban the PTI.

“Those who are talking about banning PTI, you are going to dig your own grave, you have already been rejected by people because of your cruelty. Legally, only the Supreme Court has issued an order under Article 17 (2) of the Constitution of Pakistan. Our party is against the policies of a few people, not against the country, Imran Khan is in jail today for the independence and strength of Pakistan. And to say that we are the country. This is shameless arrogance which has nothing to do with reality,” he posted on Twitter.

In its official response, the Pak Tehreek e Insaaf said that the puppet government of Pakistan is daydreaming of banning the PTI.

“General Asim Munir and his puppet government’s mood is increasing after the process of returning the public mandate of Tehreek-e-Insaaf, which was given on February 8, after which they started daydreaming about banning Tehreek-e-Insaaf. General Asim Munir, take care and do not shake the foundations of Pakistan by playing with the constitution any more. No patriot can think of banning the largest and most popular party in Pakistan, doing so is tantamount to shaking the foundations of Pakistan and sending the country towards civil war.

Learn from the Hamudur Rehman Commission report and stop playing with fire The nation will not bear the loss of the country to satisfy your ego,” the PTI said in a post on X.

  • India Slams Pakistan For “Baseless,” “Deceitful” Narratives At UN General Assembly |

New Delhi: India has slammed Pakistan for its “baseless and deceitful narratives,” after Islamabad’s envoy Munir Akram made references to Kashmir in his speech at the UN General Assembly.

While delivering a statement at the UNGA debate on the annual report, Pratik Mathur, the Minister at India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, said that one delegation “misused” this forum to spread “deceitful and baseless” narratives.

Mathur said, “Earlier in the day, one delegation misused this forum to spread baseless and deceitful narratives, which is not a surprise. I will not dignify these remarks with any response just to save valuable time of this august body.”

His remarks came after Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN during the debate at the UN General Assembly called for monitoring the implementation of resolutions, including those on Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan regularly brings up the Jammu and Kashmir issue at UN platforms and other some international forums, irrespective of the agenda of the meetings.

India has repeatedly rejected Pakistan’s attempts to raise the Kashmir issue on international platforms, asserting that the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir as well as Ladakh are “integral parts of India” and Pakistan has no “locus standi” to make statements regarding India’s domestic matters.

During the UNGA debate, Pratik Mathur on Tuesday stressed the need for a comprehensive reform of the Security Council with expansion of both permanent and non-permanent members.

“We welcome the opportunity to participate in the debate on the Report of the Security Council. We thank the members of the Security Council and the Secretariat for producing the annual report of the Security Council.,” Mathur said.

“India also joins others in congratulating new incoming members for having been elected to the Council for the period 2025-2026. We look forward to working with them in a constructive and positive manner,” he added.

The Indian diplomat pointed out that the UN Charter bestows on the report a profound seriousness, as is evident from the fact that there exists a separate provision mandating such a report, rather than clubbing it with the provision for reports from other UN bodies.

“The annual report of the Security Council must inform, highlight and analyse the measures that it has decided upon or taken to maintain international peace and security during the reporting period,” the Indian diplomat said.

“However, the debate on the annual report has become a ritual without much substance. The annual reports have become compendium containing details of the meetings, briefers, and outcome documents. Last year, only six monthly reports were compiled-reflecting lack of interest among the members about this ritual.,” he further said.

Mathur also stated that the annual report is also meant to be an analysis on the UN peacekeeping operations, but in reality there is little information on how peacekeeping operations. He also said there should be a definite timeline for completing the report, circulating to wider General Assembly members and holding the debate.

“The annual report, in its truest form, is also meant to be an analysis on the UN peacekeeping operations, the flagship tool for the maintenance of international peace and security. However, in reality, we find there is little information on how peacekeeping operations are run, on the problems they face, on why certain mandates are set or changed, or on when and why they are strengthened, scaled down or ended. As most peacekeepers are contributed by non-Council members, who put the lives of their troops at risk to serve the cause of international peace, a better partnership between the Security Council and the Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs) is needed,” Mathur said

Mathur stressed the need to bring the Council in line with its Charter responsibility to act on behalf of the entire membership, adding that the only remedy is a “comprehensive reform of the Security Council,” involving expansion in its permanent and non-permanent categories.

“It is high time to bring the Council in line with its Charter responsibility to act on behalf of the entire Membership. This will not be achieved without enhancing the membership in both the categories — permanent and non-permanent members,” Mathur said.

“We remain convinced that the only remedy is a comprehensive reform of the Security Council, involving expansion in its permanent and non-permanent categories. Only this will enable the Council to manage effectively today’s conflicts around the globe as well as the increasingly complex and interconnected global challenges it faces today,” he added.

He further added that the Security Council too needs to prove its credibility and improve its performance, at a time when performance assessment has become one of the focus areas at the United Nations.
