    Balrampur Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Banker Ramanlal has revealed the entire matter. He told that on September 11, armed robbers had looted Rs 2 crore 92 lakh at gunpoint in a jewelery shop in broad daylight. Balrampur police registered the case and were searching for the accused. 6 accused were arrested from 5 different states Delhi, Jharkhand, Bihar and Punjab. Jewelery worth Rs 2 crore 40 lakh was seized from these accused.

    In this incident, the main accused Sonu alias Anand Soni had also kept his girlfriend Anjani Ekka in the gang to embezzle the loot. His girlfriend used to distribute the looted goods at different places. The police had seized the gold jewelery from the girl and seized her bank account, which contained Rs 5 lakh 80 thousand. Two absconding accused involved in this incident have been arrested from Bihar.     Actually, Prakash Sharma was murdered in Raipur on 16 April 2018. Police investigation revealed that the deceased’s cousin Amrit Sharma along with three others Bhojraj Nand, Anil Kumar Behera and Chitrasen Behera conspired to kidnap Prakash for ransom. Accidentally killing him in the process. Their intention was to collect a ransom of Rs 2 crore from Prakash’s father Satyanarayan Sharma, but their plan failed when they gave chloroform to Prakash and he died of suffocation.

    The Sixth Additional Sessions Judge, Raipur found all the accused guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment. The accused presented an appeal in the High Court challenging the sentence given by the lower court. The division bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Bibhu Dutta Guru rejected all the appeals and upheld the decision of the trial court.

    Citing Sections 68 and 69A of the Income Tax Act, the Division Bench clarified that it is mandatory for the account holder to give correct information about the amount deposited in the bank. If he does not do so, that amount may come under the ambit of income tax.

    Apart from this, the bench also said that if the amount deposited is in the name of a third party, then detailed information about the source of the deposit should be sought from that person. This responsibility will be of the person in whose name the account is registered.

    This important decision has been given on the petition of Dinesh Singh Chauhan, which is related to information about bank deposits. This decision presents important guidelines not only for the account holders but also for the Income Tax Department.
