In what was a strange moment in the game, Stokes decided to roll his arms finally in the series and struck gold. He bowled a peach, getting some help by the crack on the surface, and got the ball the move just slightly away to hit the top of off and Rohit could not do anything about it but smile all the way to the dressing room an even the English players were shocked by the development.

Earlier, Kuldeep Yadav and R Ashwin had shone with the ball to bowl out England for just 218 after Stokes won the toss and opted to bat first. Kuldeep completed an impressive five-wicket haul while Ashwin got four wickets. Ravindra Jadeja got one wicket as pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj went wicketless at the end of the England's first innings.

India have an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series. England are playing to restore their pride and prove that they are not as bad a side as the scoreline looks like. India, on the other hand, are now playing for more points that strengthens their position in the World Tets Championship Points Table.

With the series already in their grasp, India aims to further assert their dominance, eyeing valuable points in the World Test Championship standings. Nestled amidst mountains, the HPCA Stadium is renowned for its breathtaking beauty. However, both teams face a challenge adapting to the chilly conditions in Dharamsala.

    IND vs ENG Weather Report

Rain could potentially disrupt the opening day of the match, with forecasts indicating a chilly morning followed by showers. Captains will factor in the weather when deciding upon the crucial toss. The inclement weather may persist throughout the day, with thundershowers also predicted for the afternoon, posing challenges for the players. India maintained their jealous record at home by sealing the series in Ranchi and now, they will be looking for another favorable result to extend their lead in World Test Championships standings. The pitch and the cold weather, that is making the English feel at home, have been the two big talking points going into the game. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 10 degrees for the opening two days before rising over the weekend.

The pitch were a flat look on the eve of the game but the moisture seeped beneath will keep the pacers interested in the early hours of play on all days. Though traditionally, the venue favors fast bowlers, the role of spinners can't be discounted and they did play a big part in India's win over Australia in the one and only Test played here back in 2017.

In the recently held four Ranji Trophy games, the teams were able to score 300 plus on multiple occasions with the highest total of the season being 482 posted by Baroda. Ashwin and Jonny Bairstow, both of whom will make their 100th Test appearance on Thursday, expressed contrasting views on the surface going the match. Bairstow found the pitch 'nice' while Ashwin said both teams will be entering unknown territory considering the cold weather.

India are, however, unlikely to tinker with their bowling combination of two pacers and three spinners. Jasprit Bumrah will return to bolster the attack with Mohammed Siraj being the second pacer. Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav, who has been able to play only 11 Tests since making a successful debut back here in 2017, will share the duties in the spin department.

KL Rahul not regaining full fitness even for this game could provide another opportunity to the struggling Rajat Patidar, who has found bizarre ways to get out in his debut series, aggregating only 63 runs in six innings at number four. The game could be his one last chance to keep a place in the squad.

Devdutt Padikkal, who is a top-order batsman, is another option that the team management has in the middle-order. Two-Test-old Sarfaraz Khan could not score big in Ranchi after a stellar debut in Rajkot and he will be desperate to make it big before the red ball season comes to a close.

The rest of the batters have also made their presence felt over the course of five games especially Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is within touching distance of becoming the second Indian after the great Sunil Gavaskar to amass 700 runs in a series.

Mental fatigue hasn't set in as England aim to end the tour on a high. England have already lost the series, their first in the 'Bazball' era, but there is still plenty to play for before they return home after a long tour.

Bairstow's 100th Test milestone will be celebrated through the week and by the looks of it, the England cricketers are enjoying in this scenic town with the cold weather adding to their comfort. (IND vs ENG 5th Test: Rohit Sharma Makes Big Statement On Playing 11 As Rajat Patidar Is Likely To Play In Dharamsala)

The right-hander has been well below par in the series and would be aiming to make his 100th Test outing an unforgettable one by regaining his lost form. England fans have also arrived here in big numbers, giving the players another reason to come up with a special performance.

“I don't think that anyone is thinking like that,” Ben Stokes said on Tuesday when asked if players are already thinking about returning home.

“We feel every opportunity to play for England is special. That's just our mentality and our mindset, regardless of where you are, or how long you've been away. But that shouldn't take away from the fact that this place is pretty special,” the skipper told the traveling British media.

England, who went with only one specialist pacer at the start of the series and had two of them featuring in the last game, will continue with the latter formula here too.

Veteran James Anderson will partner Mark Wood, who will replace Ollie Robinson. Shoaib Bashir, who is nursing a sore spinning finger, and Tom Hartley, have come of age in their debut series and will be the two specialist spinners.

Squads:India: Rohit Sharma (C), Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel (WK), KS Bharat (WK), Devdutt Padikkal, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep.

England XI: Ben Stokes (C), Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Foakes, Tom Hartley, Mark Wood, James Anderson, Shoaib Bashir. (With PTI inputs)

  • India Vs England 5th Test Playing 11s: Will KL Rahul And Jasprit Bumrah Return For Dharamsala Test? What We Know So Far | cricket news

India’s wicketkeeper and batsman KL Rahul played just one Test before he was ruled out of the second due to an issue in his quadriceps. He was rested in Visakhapatnam but even after a long gap before the Rajkot game, Rahul was only at 90 percent fitness and BCCI didn’t risk including him in the squad. He has not attained full fitness yet and also missed the Ranchi Test. As per a new report on Cricbuzz, Rahul’s participation in Dharamsala is still unclear as the batsman has flown to London for an expert opinion on his injury.

Rahul is still feeling pain in his right quadriceps for which he had undergone a surgery in London. He made his comeback in Asia Cup 2023 after which he successfully played in the ODI World Cup and in South Africa. But the pain is back and BCCI as well as National Croquet Academy (NCA) don’t want to take any risks with him as the cricketer is of utmost importance to them.

With India already 3-1 up in the series, BCCI might not want to take any risk with a 90 percent fit Rahul. It has also been reported that one more batter and one bowler might be rested in Dharamsala as BCCI looks to manage workload of players.

The good news for Jasprit Bumrah fans is that he is likely to return for the Dharamshala Test. This is the ground which offers assistance to the Pacers and for the first time in the series we might get to see three paces in both the playing 11s.

Coming back to Rahul, he also leads Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The fact that he is very close to regaining full fitness means Rahul is certain to play IPL 2024. Even if he misses the first few games, he should be able to get back to LSG midway through the season.

As far as England are concerned, they are unlikely to make massive changes to the playing 11 knowing they would want to finish the series on a high note, going back with a 3-2 scoreline rather than 4-1. One change that may want to make is including Dan Lawrence in place of Jonny Bairstow. Lawrence has been warming the bench so far and with Bairstow in such a poor form, Lawrence can be tried at the No 5 slot. Knowing fast-paced nature of Dharamsala pitch, we might also see three pacers also in England XI in the form of James Anderson, Mark Wood and Ollie Robinson. As per report, England and India are set to fly to Dharamsala on March 2.

India’s playing 11 for 5th Test Vs England may look like this: Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal (Devdutt Padikkal), Shubman Gill, Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, Axar Patel/Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, R Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj

England probable playing 11: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow/Dan Lawrence, Ben Stokes, Ben Foakes, Tom Hartley, James Anderson, Mark Wood, Ollie Robinson

  • IND vs ENG 4th Test: Rohit Sharma Completes 4,000 Runs In Test Cricket For India | cricket news

During India’s fourth match against England in Ranchi on Friday, Rohit Sharma reached a significant milestone by completing 4000 runs in Test cricket. He becomes the 17th Indian player to achieve this feat, doing so in his 58th Test match. Among his compatriots, Rohit ranks as the 10th fastest to reach this milestone, with Virender Sehwag holding the record for the fastest, achieving it in just 79 innings.

Since making his Test debut in 2013, the 36-year-old Indian captain has showcased his prowess in the longer format, maintaining an impressive average of over 44. Rohit’s Test career boasts 11 centuries and 16 half-centuries, with a top score of 212, achieved against South Africa in 2019. (Dhruv Jurel Honors Kargil War Veteran Father With Inspirational Celebration, Video Goes Viral – Watch)

Initially starting his Test career as a middle-order batsman, Rohit made a significant transition to becoming an opener in 2019, a move that has proven successful for both him and the Indian team.

A five-wicket haul by spinner Ravichandran Ashwin helped India bundle out England for just 145 runs in their second innings and get a target of 192 runs to seal the series on day three of the fourth Test at Ranchi on Sunday.

India ended the day at 40/0, with skipper Rohit Sharma (24*) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (16*) unbeaten. England started the final session at 120/5, with Jonny Bairstow (30*) and Ben Foakes (0*) unbeaten.

Ravindra Jadeja struck for India at the very first ball of the session and from then on, it opened the floodgates. Bairstow had a lapse of concentration and he handed an easy catch to Rajat Patidar at covers for just 30 in 42 balls. England was 120/6.

Tom Hartley and Ollie Robinson looked to give England a brief respite from these quick wickets, but Kuldeep Yadav’s spin continued its magic, first removing Hartley for just seven after being caught by Sarfaraz Khan and then he trapped Robinson leg-before-wicket for zero. England was 133/8.

Then veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin had his moment, registering his first major success of the series. Dismissing Ben Foakes (17) and James Anderon (0) in the same over, he got his five-wicket haul, his first in the series. England was bundled out for 145 and set India a target of 192 runs to win.

Ashwin (5/51) and Kuldeep (4/22) led a major spin assault on England batsmen and Ravindra Jadeja also took a wicket. All ten wickets were taken by spinners. India came out with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and skipper Rohit Sharma starting the run-chase of 192 runs. Rohit targeted Hartley and hit him for some boundaries. India ended the final session without a loss of a wicket.

Earlier, Ashwin and Kuldeep spun a web as England lost five wickets early in the second session of the ongoing fourth Test to put India in control of proceedings at the JSCA International Stadium Complex on Sunday.

At the time of Tea, England’s score read 120/5 – lead by 166 runs- with Jonny Bairstow (30) and Ben Foakes (0) standing unbeaten at the crease. India ended the second session on a great note as the hosts pulled their way right back into this match after a flurry of wickets.

Early in the second session, star spinner Ashwin provided India with two back-to-back breakthroughs as he dismissed Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope on consecutive deliveries. Despite losing two wickets in quick succession, England gained momentum as Zak Crawley started dealing in boundaries.

India turned to Mohammed Siraj after starting with 15 overs of spin from both ends, however, England kept the momentum in their favour. In the 17th over of the game, Ashwin sent dangerous batsman Joe Root packing with a full and straight delivery off the final ball.

Crawley continued his blistering form and slammed his third half-century of the series. The English batters rotated the strike brilliantly, not allowing the Indian bowlers to settle down while whacking the loose balls on offer.

A cracker from Kuldeep helped India spring in their step again as he removed well-set batter Crawley for 60. Crawley stepped back at a beauty that skidded through, beat the bat and smashed into the middle stump.

Kuldeep got the main man as he removed captain Ben Stokes for 4. The ball stayed low and Stokes had no answer for it, seeing it hit his shin and then spin back through his legs to hit the stumps, leaving England tottering at 120/5. at Tea.

Earlier, at lunch, India ended their first inning at 307 and trailed by 46 runs after Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav played a 76-run partnership.

Day three started with Kuldeep and Dhruv Jurel on the crease. Both the Indians were playing calmly and slowly putting runs on the scoreboard at a time when the hosts were under pressure.

Jurel and Kuldeep helped India to cross the 250-run mark in the 86th over. However, James Anderson made the first breakthrough of the day after he dismissed Kuldeep for 28 runs for 131 balls in the 89th. The off-spinner smashed 2 fours as well.

India moved past the 300 runs mark in the 101.6 overs after playing 618 balls. After the dismissal, India failed to build another partnership in their first inning. Later in the 101st over, Shoaib Bashir removed Akash Deep for 9 runs from 29 balls. With Deep’s wicket, Bashir bagged his first five-wicket haul in first-class cricket. Bashir was the main man to keep a check on India’s run rate and put England in the driver’s seat.

Jurel claimed his first fifty in the first ball of the 90th over. However, the youngster was unlucky to hit a century as he was dismissed by Tom Hartley for 90 runs from 149 balls and ended India’s first inning. Jurel smashed 6 fours and 4 sixes with a strike rate of 60.40. On the other hand, Bashir led the English bowling attack with his fiver. While Hartley bagged three wickets as he gave away 68 runs.

Brief Scores: India: 307 and 40/0 (Rohit Sharma 24*, Yashasvi Jaiswal) need to score 152 more runs against England: 353 and 145 (Zak Crawley 60, Jonny Bairstow 30, Ravichandran Ashwin 5/51). (With ANI inputs)

Coming to the third Test, Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his brilliant run of form with third Test century and Shubman Gill hit an unbeaten half-century to help India secure a 322-run lead against England on the third day of the third Test at Rajkot on Saturday.

India reached the 50-run mark in 19 overs. Jaiswal and Shubman continued to hit at least a boundary per over, stitching a 50-run partnership.

Both young batsmen let their arms loose in the 27th over, smashing veteran pacer James Anderson for three fours and a six, with Jaiswal delivering more beating. Jaiswal reached his half-century in 80 balls, smashing spinner Tom Hartley for two sixes in the 28th over. India reached the 100-run mark in 27.5 overs.

Jaiswal and Gill were toying with the England spinners, bringing up their 100-run partnership in 122 balls. India reached the 150-run mark in 38.1 overs. Jaiswal continued his rich run of form, making his third century in 122 balls, with nine fours and five sixes. (Why Team India Is Wearing Black Arm Band In India vs England 3rd Test Day 3?)

With a six, Gill reached his fifth Test fifty in 98 balls, with four boundaries and two sixes. After experiencing some issues with his back, Jaiswal walked off the field, unbeaten on 104* and Rajat Patidar walked in. Rajat however, was dismissed for a duck by Tom Hartley. India was 191/2. India ended the final session without any further loss of wicket.

Earlier, before the final season, Rohit Sharma and Jaiswal came to open for India and the two batters put on 30 runs before England struck with the first wicket, Rohit, who scored a century in the first innings, went back on score of 19 runs. which included three boundaries.

Gill and Jaiswal put together 14 runs so far, ending the Tea session at 44/1.

Before this, Right-arm seamer Mohammad Siraj’s outstanding spell helped India take a 170-run lead at Tea on the third day of the third Test being played at Niranjan Shah Stadium on Saturday. England resumed the post-lunch session from 290/5 with Ben Stokes (39) and Ben Foakes (6) unbeaten at the crease.

Inside nine runs, the Three Lions first lost the wicket of Foakes (13) and then the wicket of Stokes (41). England were 299 and lost their next two wickets at the score of 314 runs as Rehan Ahmed (6) and Tom Hartley (9) went to the pavilion. James Anderson was the last man to go and scored only one run.

English were all-out for 319 runs it is the third successive time that India has taken a first-innings lead in the five-match series. India led by 124 runs before the start of their second innings. Other than left-hand opener Ben Duckett, who scored 153 runs with the help of 23 fours and two sixes, no bather was able to hit a big score.

For India, Siraj snapped four crucial wickets in his spell of 21.1 overs and conceded 84 runs. Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav got two wickets each and Jasprit Bumrah and Ashwin had to be satisfied with one wicket each.

Earlier, starting day three, Jasprit Bumrah drew first blood as he removed Joe Root for 18 runs, breaking a 42-run partnership. Root tried to play a scoop shot and steal a boundary. However, the shot lacked timing as Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was placed at the slip, took a fantastic catch.

Kuldeep Yadav provided Team India with another breakthrough as he dismissed Jonny Bairstow for a duck. Despite losing two wickets in quick succession, England kept up the momentum. Duckett took a single off Kuldeep Yadav’s delivery and brought up his 150. He took 139 balls to reach the feat.

Duckett’s splendid innings came to an end as he tried to play a shot into the cover for a boundary but Gill intercepted and took a brilliant catch of the bowling of Kuldeep. After the dismissal of Duckett, the onus lay on the shoulders of Ben Stokes to take England ahead in the game and the captain kept the scoreboard ticking. The duo of Stokes and Ben Foakes rotated the strike, not allowing the Indian bowlers to settle down while whacking the loose balls on offer.

The visitors ended the first session of the day at 290/5 with Stokes (39) and Ben Foakes (6) at the crease. Earlier at stumps on day two, England were sitting pretty at 207/2, going at a run-a-ball rate and trailing India by just 238 runs.

  • ‘It Was My Wrong Call,’ Ravindra Jadeja Apologizes To Sarfaraz Khan For Run Out Dismissal On Debut | cricket news

Experienced Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has apologized on the regrettable mix-up between himself and debutant Sarfaraz Khan during Day 1 of the 3rd Test versus England. Spearheading India’s batting effort on Thursday, Jadeja partnered with Sarfaraz after Captain Rohit Sharma revitalized the host’s innings with a record-breaking century. While Jadeja and Rohit showcased their prowess by reaching centuries in Rajkot, Sarfaraz captured the admiration of many with his spectacular performance against Ben Stokes and company in this pivotal match.

Jadeja declined the quick single after calling for it as Sarfaraz signaled for it, resulting in mid-on fielder Mark Wood executing a direct hit that concluded the debutant’s entertaining innings. Following India’s commendable total on Day 1, Jadeja expressed his sympathy for Sarfaraz on Instagram. (WATCH: Rohit Sharma Devastated As Sarfaraz Khan Gets Runout On Test Debut)

The seasoned all-rounder also took complete accountability for the run-out. “Feeling remorseful for @SarfarazKhan97, it was my misjudgment. Well played,” Jadeja shared on Instagram Stories.

England assistant coach Paul Collingwood on Thursday heaped praise on debutant Sarfaraz Khan, whose aggressive 62 allowed India to score 326 for five on day one of the third Test. Collingwood said Sarfaraz showed a “lot of courage to play like that” after the right-handed batsman smashed his fifty off 48 balls, the joint fastest by an Indian on debut.

“He came out and batted really well. We kept attacking fields to him. He likes to be a strokemaker and play his shots,” Collingwood told the media after stumps here.

“I thought Ben (Stokes) wanted to keep attacking fields so we could create a chance. And fair play to him (Sarfaraz), he had the courage to go over the top on a few occasions,” Collingwood added. “He sweeps really well and puts the bowlers under pressure. On debut, it takes as a lot of courage to come out and play like that. I guess from his point of view, it was a shame to get run out the way he did. You can see why he has got a pretty good first-class average — he looks a decent player,” he continued.

Collingwood said although England exploited the early conditions well, it was a toil for the remainder of the day as the ball went soft and the pitch did not have much for the bowlers.

“It was a great start, there was a bit of movement around this morning, it seemed a bit cooler, a bit of moisture on the ground so the ball nipped around a bit. Jimmy and Woody were exceptional. As the ball gets softer, it’s doing less,” he said.

“The spinners toiled away all day with little reward but when you’ve got quality batters like they have in the India team, they’re always going to get a response.”The two guys who got hundreds and Sarfaraz at the end played exceptionally. well. We threw everything at them, in terms of plans and field positions,” he added.

The former England batsman said Stokes tried to maneuver the field given the lack of support from the pitch while also defended Joe Root, whose dropped catch of Rohit Sharma (131) proved costly.“Nobody ever wants to drop catches and the beauty about the game. is you’ve got to try to make more opportunities,” Collingwood said.

“That’s what Stokesy with his field placings and the bowlers did, trying to work out if they could change the mentality of the batters. On wickets that aren’t doing too much, you’ve got to take risks to try create chances,” he added.

Collingwood said despite India being in a strong position after the end of the first day, the mood in the English camp remains upbeat.

“The mood’s very upbeat. It doesn’t generally change no matter what day we have. We all realize that however many runs India get, we’re going to go out there pretty positively with the bat,” he said. “If we have to chase runs on this pitch, it’s a very fast outfield and we’re good at chasing,” Collingwood added.

  • Big Blow To England Ahead Of 3rd Test Vs India As Jack Leach Ruled Out Of Series Due To Injury IND Vs ENG | cricket news

England’s spinner Jack Leach has suffered a left knee injury, forcing him to withdraw from the remainder of the England Men’s Test tour of India. The injury occurred during England’s triumph in the first Test in Hyderabad, leading to his absence in the second Test in Vizag. Leach will depart from Abu Dhabi within the next day, where the England team has been stationed ahead of the upcoming third Test in Rajkot, scheduled to commence on Thursday. He will undergo rehabilitation under the guidance of both the England and Somerset medical teams.

Regrettably, England have decided against summoning a replacement for Leach, opting to proceed with the current squad. This setback is undoubtedly disappointing for both Leach and the team, given his contributions to England’s bowling attack. However, his health and recovery are paramount, and the focus now shifts to ensuring his swift and complete rehabilitation. The absence of Leach will necessitate adjustments in England’s strategy for the remaining matches, with the team likely to rely on alternative bowling options to fill the void left by his absence.

Leach had missed out on 2nd Test as well due to the injury, making way for Shoaib Bashir, the right-arm off spinner who made his debut in Visakhapatnam. With injury to Leach and no replacement announced for him, it seems Bashir will continue to feature in the playing 11 for England in this long series.
