  • ‘Rahul Gandhi Can Become Prime Minister But Of Pakistan’: Himanta Biswa Sarma |

Assam Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma has been campaigning for the party candidates across states and has been quite vocal about why the NDA is vying for over 400 seats in this Lok Sabha Elections. Addressing a public meeting in Bihar’s Siwan, Sarma said that if the NDA gets 400 seats, it would not only fulfil the promise of the Uniform Civil Code but will also end ‘the business of marrying four times’. Indirectly referring to Madrasas, Sarma said that the NDA government will also ‘shut down shops that produce mullas’. He said that the ‘new India’ led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not need madrassas but modern institutions that produce doctors and engineers.

The Assam CM also added that there won’t be any reservations based on religion and the NDA government would end Muslim reservations. Sarma also said that grand temples would be built in Varanasi and Mathura if the NDA returns to power by winning over 400 Lok Sabha seats.

He was indirectly referring to Gyanvapi row in Varanasi and Shahi Idgah row in Mathura. The Assam CM said the NDA, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will ensure that Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, which is an integral part of India, returns to the country.

Invoking the Ram Temple to slam Congress and RJD, Sarma said, “Rahul Gandhi and Lalu Prasad did not attend the consecration of Ram Mandir. They want to send Ram Lalla back to the tent. We must not let this happen.”

Slamming the INDIA bloc over reservations based on religion, Sarma said, “Religion-based reservations should be given to Muslims in Pakistan, not India. Lalu Prasad should go to Pakistan to give reservations to Muslims. The NDA will not allow this at any cost.”

Hitting out at Rahul Gandhi’s PM ambition, Sarma said that the Congress leader can contest elections in Pakistan and become PM there. Sarma also alleged that besides putting up its own candidates, Congress and RJD are also backing Independent candidates in certain seats against BJP nominees.

  • ‘Hell Bent On Ending Reservation, Democracy And Constitution’: Lalu Yadav Warns People Against BJP |

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: RJD supremo and former Chief Minister of Bihar Lalu Prasad Yadav today launched a scathing attack against the BJP alleging that the saffron party is ‘hell-bent on ending reservation and democracy’. Taking to social media amid the Lok Sabha campaign, Lalu Yadav warned people against voting for the BJP.

“Dear countrymen, Be alert and cautious! BJP is hell-bent on ending your reservation, democracy and constitution of the country. If the constitution of the country does not remain, then democracy will also not remain in the country. You will not remain equal citizens of the country. You will not remain citizens who have rights, constitutional protection and remedies. You will remain just slaves of a few people,” said the RJD chief.

The RJD is contesting the Lok Sabha polls as a part of the INDIA bloc which consists of Congress and the Left party in Bihar. The NDA consists of the BJP, LJP-RV, JDU, RLM and HAM.

Lalu Yadav further said, “If there is a constitution, then there is a reservation and if there is a reservation, then there is protection from inequality, oppression and tyranny. There is a sense of equality, there is a remedy. The BJP’s conduct is anti-equality by nature. These people want to increase inequality in society by abolishing the constitution and reservation and make people mental slaves again.”

    — Lalu Prasad Yadav (@laluprasadrjd) May 16, 2024

The RJD leader further claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi never took action against the BJP leaders who claimed that their party would end democracy and make a new constitution.

“It is clear that they (BJP leaders) have deliberately got a green signal from the top leadership of the BJP. Through such statements, BJP people test your seriousness, awareness and commitment towards reservation and constitution.  If you do not contribute today in the fight to save the Constitution, reservation and democracy, then you and your future generations will live the same vicious cycle of oppression and neglect that your ancestors once lived through,” warned Lalu Yadav.

Lalu Yadav further urged people to participate enthusiastically in this festival of democracy and ‘teach a tough lesson to the anti-Constitution and anti-reservation BJP’.

  • Phase-3 Campaigning Ends; Fate Of Over 1300 Candidates From 93 Lok Sabha Seats To Be Sealed On May 7; Check Key Candidates |

Lok Sabha Chunav 2024: In the third and another crucial phase for the Lok Sabha elections 2024, a total of 93 seats are going to the polls. While a total of 94 seats was to go to the polls in the phase 3, voting was not needed for Surat as the BJP candidate got elected unopposed. However, the Betul seat of Madhya Pradesh is going to polls in the third phase after polling was earlier postponed due to death of a candidate. Also, the voting for the Anantnag-Rajouri seat was also postponed to May 26, thus, 93 seats are up for grab in this phase. The 93 seats are spread across 10 states and 1 union territory.

    Key Poll Planks

In the third phase the BJP-led NDA and the INDIA bloc of Congress fiercely attacked each other making muslim reservations, constitution and sexual harassment charges against JD(S) leader Prajwal Revanna issues to woo the voters. While the Congress accused the BJP of favouring a sexual abuse offender and trying to change the constituion, the saffron party has slammed the Congress for providing religion-based reservation to Muslims from the quota of SC/ST/OBCs.

    High-Stakes For BJP

The stakes are significantly high for the BJP in this phase because the party had in 2019 won majority of these seats including clean sweep in Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. On the other hand, Congress is looking to make a big dent in these seats by promising several freebies and financial aids.

A total of 25 (out of 26) seats in Gujarat, 11 seats in Maharashtra, 10 seats in Uttar Pradesh, remaining 14 of the 28 in Karnataka, seven in Chhattisgarh, eight in Madhya Pradesh, five in Bihar, four each in Assam and West Bengal, and all two in Goa are going to the polls in Phase 3 on May 7. The Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu (2 seats) will also go to polls in the third phase.

    Phase-3 Key Candidates And Constituencies

Of the over 1300 candidates, the bigwigs include Union ministers Amit Shah from Gandhinagar, Jyotiraditya Scindia from Guna, Mansukh Mandaviya from Porbandar, Parshottam Rupala from Rajkot, Pralhad Joshi from Dharwad, SP Singh Baghel from Agra, Shivraj Singh Chouhan from Vidisha, Digvijaya Singh from Rajgarh, Basavaraj Bommai from Haveri, Badruddin Ajmal from Dhubri, Akhilesh Yadav from Kannauj, Dimple Yadav from Mainpuri, Ram Gopal Yadav’s son Akshaya Yadav from Firozabad, Aditya Yadav from Budaun, as well as Supriya Sule and Sunetra Pawar from Baramati.

  • Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Congress Picks Jay Narayan Patnaik As Suchitra Mohanty Pulls Out Of Race In Puri |

Bhubaneswar: Congress on Saturday night named Jay Narayan Patnaik as its candidate for the Puri Lok Sabha seat in Odisha after Sucharita Mohanty pulled out of the race, claiming that the party denied her funds for her campaign.

In a statement issued by Congress general secretary KC Venugopal, the party said its president Mallikarjun Kharge approved the candidature of Patnaik in place of Mohanty.

Sucharita Mohanty, the daughter of former Congress MP Brajamohan Mohanty, in a mail to Venugopal on Friday claimed that her campaign was hit hard because the party denied her funding.

She alleged that Congress in-charge of the state Ajoy Kumar “categorically” asked her to fight from her own resources.

“I was a salaried professional journalist who entered electoral politics 10 years ago. I have given all I have into my campaign in Puri. I tried a public donation drive to support my campaign for progressive politics without much success so far. I also tried to cut down the projected campaign spending to the minimum,” she said.

Mohanty said that she approached all senior leaders of the party for funds.

“It is clear that only fund crunch is holding us back from a winning campaign in Puri. I regret that without party funding, it won’t be possible to carry out the campaign in Puri. I, therefore, return the party ticket for the Puri Lok Sabha constituency herewith,” she said in her mail.

However, Mohanty said she will remain a loyal Congress worker.

Later, she told reporters that in assembly segments under the Puri Lok Sabha constituency, weak candidates were given tickets by the Congress.

“BJP and BJD are sitting on mountains of money. Vulgar displays of wealth are everywhere. It was difficult for me to fight the election,” she said.

Reacting to her claims, Kumar said, “Funds will be provided to a candidate when the candidate launches the campaign and seriously fights at the ground.”

The BJP has fielded its national spokesperson Sambit Patra in Puri, while the BJD candidate is ex-IPS Arup Patnaik, a former Mumbai Police commissioner. Puri will vote on May 25.

  • Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Congress’ Puri Candidate Sucharita Mohanty Returns Ticket As ‘Party Denied Funding’ |

Bhubaneswar: The Puri Lok Sabha candidate for the Congress, Sucharita Mohanty, withdrew her ticket. Mohanty claims that the party had ‘denied her funding’. Speaking to ANI on her letter withdrawing the candidature, the Congress leader said, “I have returned the ticket because the party was not able to fund me. Another reason is that in some of the seats in seven Assembly segments, winnable candidates have not been given the ticket. Instead, some weak candidates got the ticket. I couldn’t contest like this.”

Mohanty stated earlier on Saturday that her campaign in the Puri constituency ‘has been hit hard’ by a lack of funding. She also stated that her attempts to generate money through a public contribution drive saw little to no results.

In order to seek help from the party leadership, Mohanty wrote a letter that was addressed to the party general secretary, KC Venugopal. “Our campaign in the Puri Parliamentary constituency has been hit hard because the party has denied me funding. AICC Odisha in-charge Ajoy Kumar ji categorically asked me to fend for myself. I was a salaried professional journalist who entered electoral politics 10 years ago. I have given all I have into my campaign in Puri.”

“I tried a public donation drive to support my campaign for progressive politics without much success so far. I also tried to cut down the projected campaign spending to the minimum,” she added. She further said that the party’s central leadership did not tend to her several requests to provide funds.

“Since I couldn’t raise funds on my own, I knocked at your and all other doors of our party’s central leadership urging them to commit the necessary party funds for an impactful campaign in Puri Parliament seat. Like in 2014, I found a groundswell of popular support behind our party and my candidature. In this 2024 Satta Vs Janata election, the people are all set to throw out the two corrupt and scamsters ruling parties, BJP and BJP and vote for 5 Nyays and 25 guarantees of Congress,” Mohanty said. Mohanty further asserted to remain a “loyal soldier of Congress and leader Rahul Gandhi”.

“It is clear that only fund crunch is holding us back from a winning campaign in Puri. I regret that without party funding, it won’t be possible to carry out the campaign in Puri. I, therefore, return the INC ticket for the Puri parliamentary constituency herewith,” the Congress leader said.
“I am a Congresswoman with core Congress values in my DNA. I shall remain a loyal soldier of Congress and my leader Jananayak Rahul Gandhi ji,” she added.

In the Puri seat, Mohanty was contesting against Sambit Patra of the BJP. Pinaki Misra, a member of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), presently holds the constituency. Sixth phase voting in Puri is set to take place on May 25. On June 4, there will be a vote count. Pinaki Misra defeated Sambit Patra of the BJP by a margin of 11,714 votes in the general elections of 2019.
