  • IPL 2025: MS Dhoni Ready To Play? CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan Gives Huge Update | cricket news

MS Dhoni has put to rest any doubts about his participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, bringing relief to the Chennai Super Kings. The team wasted no time in confirming that their iconic captain will indeed be playing in the next season.

“When he is ready, what else (do) we want. We are happy,” franchise CEO Kasi Viswanathan told Cricbuzz on Saturday. Viswanathan’s statement follows Dhoni’s recent remarks, where he expressed his eagerness to enjoy the remaining years of his cricketing career.

“I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I am able to play,” Dhoni was quoted as saying to TOI. “When you play cricket like a professional sport, it becomes difficult to enjoy it just like a game. That’s what I want to do. It’s not easy. (‘I Want To Enjoy The Game’: MS Dhoni’s Big Reveal On His IPL 2025 Participation For CSK)

“The emotions keep coming, the commitments are there. I want to enjoy the game for the next few years. I have to keep myself fit for nine months, so that I can play two and a half months of IPL. You need to plan it out, but at the same time chill a bit.”

While Dhoni’s announcement was largely anticipated, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) officials had been waiting for a final confirmation from him, which they expected by October 28. Now that Dhoni’s intentions are clear, the franchise is set to finalize its player retention decisions. Viswanathan confirmed that Dhoni will soon speak with N Srinivasan, the franchise owner, to finalize the retained players list.

Dhoni, who will be in the uncapped category, will impact the auction price by just INR 4 crore. Ravindra Jadeja is expected to be the top retention, followed by Ruturaj Gaikwad. Matheesha Pathirana, a key CSK player, is believed to have agreed to be the third retention, with his manager sealing the deal in Chennai last week. Among Shivam Dube, Devon Conway, and uncapped player Sameer Rizvi, two are likely to be retained.

The final decisions will be confirmed after Dhoni’s upcoming discussion with Srinivasan, with Dhoni expected to return to Ranchi from Goa in the next few days.

  • Tushar Deshpande’s Instagram Story Adds Salt To RCB’s Wounds, CSK Star Delets It Later | cricket news

In an era where social media blunders are rapidly amplified, Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) pacer Tushar Deshpande found himself at the center of controversy following his Instagram story mocking Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). After RCB’s defeat to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2024 Eliminator, Deshpande’s ill-timed post added fuel to the fire, leading to a backlash that prompted its swift deletion.

    A Heartbreaking Defeat for RCB

Royal Challengers Bangalore, riding high on a six-match winning streak, faced a crushing blow as their IPL 2024 campaign ended in the Eliminator against Rajasthan Royals. Despite posting a competitive total of 172/8, courtesy of valuable contributions from Virat Kohli (33 off 24) and Rajat Patidar (34 off 22), RCB’s efforts fell short. RR’s chase, spearheaded by Yashasvi Jaiswal’s explosive 45 off 30 balls and Riyan Parag’s composed 36 off 26, ensured they reached 174/6 in 20 overs, knocking RCB out of the tournament.

    Deshpande’s Instagram Faux Pas

As RCB fans mourned yet another missed opportunity, Tushar Deshpande’s Instagram story added insult to the injury. The CSK pacer posted a photo of Bengaluru Cantonment railway station with the caption “CSK fans are built different,” subtly mocking RCB’s repeated failures. However, recognizing the insensitivity and potential backlash, Deshpande quickly deleted the post.

Analyzing the Game: RCB’s Batting Woes

RCB’s innings had moments of brilliance but lacked the finishing touch needed to secure a higher total. Kohli’s quickfire 33 and Patidar’s solid 34 laid a promising foundation, but the middle-order struggled to accelerate. Despite a spirited effort, the score seemed insufficient against a resilient RR side. Avesh Khan (3/35) and Ravichandran Ashwin (2/29) were instrumental in keeping RCB’s total in check.

Rajasthan’s Resilience: Jaiswal and Parag Shine

Chasing 173, RR faced early jitters but quickly found their rhythm with Jaiswal’s aggressive approach. His 30-ball 45 included some stunning boundaries, providing the necessary momentum. Parag’s calm demeanor under pressure was commendable, as he anchored the chase with a crucial 36 off 26 balls. The duo’s efforts were complemented by Rovman Powell’s late cameo (16* off 9), sealing the win for Rajasthan.

Turning Points: Siraj and Ferguson’s Efforts

Mohammed Siraj’s late strikes (2/33) gave RCB a glimmer of hope, dismissing Parag and Hetmyer in quick succession. Lockie Ferguson’s crucial breakthroughs, including the dismissals of Jaiswal and Kohler-Cadmore, momentarily shifted the game’s momentum. However, Powell’s calculated assault in the final overs dashed RCB’s comeback hopes.

The Road Ahead for Rajasthan Royals

With this victory, Rajasthan Royals advanced to face Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Qualifier 2, setting up an exciting clash for a place in the IPL final. RR’s win, breaking a four-match losing streak, reinvigorates their campaign and showcases their potential to go all the way.

    Social Media’s Double-Edged Sword

Deshpande’s Instagram story serves as a reminder of the double-edged sword that is social media. While it can enhance fan engagement and provide a platform for personal expression, it also requires a level of sensitivity and awareness, especially in the heat of competitive sports. The incident underscores the need for athletes to exercise caution and empathy in their online interactions.

  • MS Dhoni Spotted Riding Bike On Ranchi Roads After CSK Crashed Out Of IPL 2024; Watch | cricket news

MS Dhoni wasted no time after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) crashed out of IPL 2024, a couple of days back, and flew back to his hometown Ranchi with his family. A lot happened in CSK’s last league game which was against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru. After the game ended, Dhoni was spotted waiting for the RCB players on the sidelines before he decided to leave the field after seeing that RCB players were still busy celebrating their playoffs qualification. This match was a virtual quarter-final as the winner was going to the playoffs. While CSK needed to register a win or lose by a small margin, RCB needed to beat CSK by certain margin. The hosts were able to do so.

Many are believing it to be Dhoni’s last IPL, saying he may not return to play next season. However, nothing is confirmed yet as ‘Thala’ himself is to speak anything on his retirement.

Meanwhile, Dhoni is back at his home and took out his old bike for a ride through the city. A video went viral on the internet, two days after the match, in which Dhoni can be seen coming from a bike ride and entering his farmhouse located on the outskirts of Ranchi.

A controversy erupted after Dhoni left the field without the customary hand shake ritual after the match. Dhoni shook hands of the RCB staff and management after the game before entering the dressing room. Later, Virat Kohli was seen entering the CSK dressing room to meet Dhoni as he had sensed that something might not be right. Commentator Harsha Bhogle and former England captain Michael Vaughan spoke to Cricbuzz on the scenes and said that RCB players should have firstly shaken hands with the CSK players and then continued to celebrate their special win.

Fans do not know whether this was Dhoni’s last match or not. Dhoni fans believe that RCB players should have given him some respect as it could turn out to the last time the world has seen Dhoni in a yellow jersey.

  • ‘Classless Players, Apni Aukaat Mat Bhulo’: CSK, RCB Fans Begin Social Media War After Faf du Plessis And Co ‘Neglect’ MS Dhoni | cricket news

After the IPL 2024 clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), a controversy took place and interestingly it involved the former Chennai captain MS Dhoni, who has possibly played his last IPL. Dhoni has not yet announced his IPL retirement but with the way he thanked the Chennai crowd after their last match at home, it appears ‘Thala’ wants to bid goodbye to the only cricket tournament he plays after international retirement. Dhoni would have liked to end on a good note, with the record-making sixth IPL trophy. Alas, it was not to be.

CSK had themselves to be blamed as after starting well, their campaignd derailed and this season they lost more games at home than expected. In the end, they needed a simple win to qualify for the playoffs. But they batted poorly in the chase and could not achieve the cut-off score even to qualify.

RCB, on the other hand, won 6 matches on the trot to qualify. They won some of these matches by good margin also which boosted their Net Run rate (NRR). They were on the cusp on being knocked out early but they picked up their game in the last 3 weeks and will now play the Eliminator vs Rajasthan Royals.

RCB fought hard and had every right to celebrate the win over CSK in their lowest group match. The celebrations were extended on the ground. An upset MS Dhoni lined up in a queue to shake hands with the RCB players. Upon seeing their celebration, he left the ground after shaking hands with the support staff of the opposition camp.

One cannot say whether Dhoni got angered by RCB’s extended celebrations over playoffs qualification on the field but cameras have recorded him leaving the ground.

On social media, a sort of war has erupted since then. RCB fans are targeting Dhoni for not waiting to shake hands with opposition players. On the other hand, CSK fans are also alleging that RCB players did not show respect to a senior player like MSD by ignoring him.

One Twitter user, who happens to be a CSK fan, wrote that RCB players are classless and the should not forget that Dhoni won 5 IPL titles for CSK and should have been respected. The RCB fans also gave fitting replies to the CSK fan, saying that all MSD had to was walk 50 meters or less to shake hands.

Check out RCB and CSK fans at loggerheads below:

The mystery continues over Dhoni’s future at CSK. Is he going to come back to win another title for Chennai next season as a player. Experts say that if BCCI keeps the Impact Player rule, in which 12 players can take part in an IPL game across the two innings, there are more chances for aging Dhoni playing next season again. The rule gives him the cushion to play purely as a batter lower down the order.

  • IPL 2024: Mustafizur Rahman To Stay With CSK Till May 1 Now After Bangladesh Cricket Board Extends NOC By One More Day | cricket news

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has extended Mustafizur Rahman’s No-Objection Certificate (NOC) for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by one day. Instead of returning to Bangladesh on April 30, he will also be available for the team’s May 1 match against the Punjab Kings (PBKS). With this, Mustafizur is now eligible for CSK’s back-to-back games against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 19 and 23, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 28, and the PBKS on May 1.

Mustafizur will thereafter travel back to his hometown for Bangladesh’s home T20I series against Zimbabwe from May 3 to 12, followed by a T20I series against the United States of America in Texas on May 21.

“We had given Mustafizur a leave to play in the IPL till April 30, but since Chennai has a match on May 1, we have extended his leave by a day upon receiving a request from Chennai and the BCCI,” Shahriar Nafees, BCB’s deputy. manager of cricket operations, said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Mustafizur has taken ten wickets at 18.30 in five matches, including his maiden four-wicket haul in the ongoing 17th edition of the IPL so far. This is his greatest performance in the IPL since the 2021 season, when he played for the Rajasthan Royals (RR).

The left-arm seamer was in Dhaka last week to complete US visa formalities for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The wickets have come at the right time for the left-arm pacer, who had lost his position in the Bangladesh ODI selection after collecting just two wickets in the T20I series against Sri Lanka.

Mustafizur, however, is Bangladesh’s most successful bowler in T20Is, with a confirmed berth in the T20 World Cup squad.

  • Matheesha Pathirana Injury Update: CSK Bowler To Miss MI Clash In IPL 2024: Here’s What Stephen Fleming Says | cricket news

Ahead of the IPL clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI), coach Stephen Fleming hinted at pacer Matheesha Pathirana’s potential absence due to a minor injury. Both teams are gearing up for a high-stakes showdown at Wankhede Stadium. CSK, currently third with three wins and two losses, looks to maintain momentum after defeating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Meanwhile, MI, positioned seventh, aims to continue their recent victories, notably over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). In their history of 36 encounters, CSK has won 16 times, while MI has claimed victory in 20 matches.

“It (Pathirana’s niggle) was not as bad as what we had thought, so we are very hopeful that if not tomorrow, then very close. We know the importance of him in games like this, but we will make sure he is 100 per cent in this form,” Fleming told reporters ahead of the game.

Fleming praised CSK’s new captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, likening him to Dhoni in demeanor. He dismissed critiques of Gaikwad’s strike rate, emphasizing his adaptability to match conditions. Gaikwad’s performance in IPL 2024 reflects consistency, with 155 runs in five matches at an average of 38.75 and a strike rate of 117.42.

“There is no difference (between Gaikwad and Dhoni). He is as cool as it gets. I know the last captain was pretty cool. But this guy is cut from the same cloth, so that is rubbed through.”

“He is such an impressive young man around his game and what he needs to do. He has been, I think, unfairly put into a bracket where he has been called slow. But you have to have context to some of these stats. We know that it is a bit of a Bollywood movie, sometimes getting these things up onto the screen. But he is fine. He is playing conditions well. The last game (CSK vs KKR) was a great example of how a leader plays, and there is class as well. I have absolutely no doubt about Ruturaj,” Fleming added.

Acknowledging the evolving batting prowess in IPL, Fleming stressed the need for measures to balance the game in favor of bowlers. He suggested reevaluating rules like the two-bouncer limit. Despite the intense rivalry between CSK and MI, both teams with five IPL titles each, Fleming highlighted the mutual respect and competitive spirit characterizing their encounters. He emphasized enjoying the occasion while maintaining focus and managing emotions.

  • MS Dhoni’s Arrival Leaves Andre Russell Covering His Ears In Awe of Chepauk’s Roar, Video Goes Viral – Watch | cricket news

The roar from the crowd at the MA Chidambaram Stadium reached a deafening 125 decibels as Mahendra Singh Dhoni strode out to the crease in the final overs of Chennai Super Kings’ run chase against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday. The sight of the iconic CSK captain was enough to send the passionate Chepauk faithful into a frenzy, leaving Kolkata all-rounder Andre Russell with no choice but to cover his ears to shield himself from the thunderous ovation.

CSK, chasing a modest target of 138, were cruising at 141/3 with 14 balls to spare when Dhoni arrived, the game all but settled. But for the Chennai crowd, who worship their beloved “Thala”, the mere presence of their talismanic leader was worth celebrating like a match-winning six.

Earlier, it was another CSK star, Ravindra Jadeja, who laid the platform for the convincing seven-wicket victory. The left-arm spinner was the architect of Kolkata’s undoing, returning brilliant figures of 3/18 to restrict the visitors to a below-par 137/9.

Jadeja struck crucial blows in the middle overs, removing the dangerous Sunil Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi to derail Kolkata’s innings. The defending champions then overhauled the target with consummate ease, led by an unbeaten 67 off 58 balls from opener Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Gaikwad laid the foundation with a 70-run stand for the second wicket with Daryl Mitchell (25) before impact substitute Shivam Dube’s blistering 28 off just 18 deliveries sealed the deal for Chennai.

While the result may have been expected given CSK’s pedigree at home, the real highlight of the evening was undoubtedly Dhoni’s grand entrance. As the former India captain made his way to the crease, the noise levels peaked, drowning out the commentary and audio feed.

Seasoned campaigner Russell, no stranger to raucous crowds himself, was taken back by the sheer intensity of the Chepauk crowd’s adulation for Dhoni. The West Indian all-rounder was seen comically covering his ears, a testament to the unprecedented popularity of the Chennai icon.

“I easily think this man is the most loved cricketer in the world,” Russell later wrote on social media, capturing the sentiment perfectly.

Indeed, Dhoni’s legacy transcends the boundaries of the sport. For the CSK faithful, he is more than just a cricket star – he is an emotion, a symbol of pride, and the very heartbeat of the franchise. And when he walks out to bat, the fans make sure the entire stadium reverberates with their unadulterated love and admiration.

As Dhoni strode out to the middle, the game was all but over. But the Chennai crowd refused to let the moment pass without savoring every bit of it. Their thunderous ovation echoed through the stadium, drowning out the commentators and leaving the opposition in awe.

In the end, CSK cruised to victory, but the real winner on the night was the unbreakable bond between Dhoni and his adoring Chepauk faithful. It was a testament to the enduring legacy of one of cricket’s greatest icons, a moment that will be etched in the memories of all those fortunate enough to witness it live.
