The promoters of Mahadev Book App obtained the protection of various police and administrative officials and influential political persons to stop legal action against the online betting app, in return for which they were regularly given huge amounts of protection money. Hawala operators were used to arrange and distribute the said illegal amount, and police officers/employees were also used to distribute illegal protection money to police and administrative officials.

This amount of protection money reached the police officers and employees distributing the money through Hawala operators, which was then distributed by them to the concerned police/administrative officers and influential political persons. Various police, administrative officers and influential political persons have misused their positions and acquired illegal property by getting illegal economic benefits in the form of protection money.

  • There is a tap here, but no water: In this village of Chhattisgarh, hand pumps are spewing red water, 350 families are yearning for every drop of water, quenching their thirst with 'Jhariya'

Purushottam Patra, Gariaband. There are more than 20 hand pumps in Gram Panchayat Aamora and Od, tribal settlements on top of the mountains in the district, but all of them produce red water i.e. iron-rich water. Therefore the water from these sources is never used for drinking. Jheria has been dug in the Panchayat headquarters and its 5 dependent villages. Villagers use water from this Jheria for drinking throughout the year.

Sarpanch of Od, Ramsingh Sori says that currently under Jal Jeevan Mission, tap connection has been installed in every house, work of water tank and pipeline is going on. Under this scheme, preparations are being made to provide water to every household by connecting the old iron-rich water source, but no one will be able to drink this water. The Sarpanch said that the administration is aware of the presence of iron in all the water sources of the village situated in the mountains, there have been repeated demands for setting up a removal plant, but no attention has been paid to this.

The Kamar family of Hathora Dih brings water from a deep jheria dug near the mountain, half a kilometer away from the village. Elderly Chitralekha Kamar is carrying drinking water from 3 feet deep Jheria.

Don't even wash utensils, depend on natural sources for bathing

Villager Bhagwan Yadav told that if water is kept in a steel vessel for more than three hours, the vessel turns red. Many pump pipes have rotted due to iron. Iron leaves its mark even in the black plastic tank. Soap does not dissolve after bathing, hair becomes sticky after washing hair. The water here is of no use. Same situation was reported about Aamora also. Where in a year two-thirds of the Gram Panchayat development item is spent on Jheria mining and repairs. As the heat increases, when natural sources dry up, more than half of the villagers stop taking regular bath and start saving water.

Sundermani Bai of Od village daily carries drinking water from the natural spring that seeps from the rock in the middle of the village. This water that seeps throughout the year is no less than a boon for the villagers.

The water filter is gathering dust because the power supply is disrupted.

Gram Panchayat operates children's shelters both at Aamora and Od, where 80 children from 7 nearby dependent villages are studying from 6th to 8th class. Od Hostel Superintendent Santu Ram Dhruv said that the solar system of the hostel has failed for the last 6 months. Higher officials have been informed about this. Due to lack of power supply, the water filter is also not being used.

The water filter in Od's Balak Ashram is lying like this, gathering dust.

The superintendents here told that solar pumps have been installed in the institute but after bringing drinking water from natural sources, it is boiled and given to the children. In this matter, the Assistant Commissioner of Tribal Development Department said that the battery warranty period of the solar system has ended. A new purchase proposal has been made to replace it. A new system will be installed soon.
