NEW DELHI: With the intent to induct indigenous defence apparatus to strengthen the operational features of the Indian Air Power (IAF) Ministry of Defence (MoD), on Thursday signed two separate contracts with Bharat Electronics Restricted (BEL), at a complete value of over Rs 3,700 crore.
The IAF in a remark stated, “The primary contract, price over Rs 2,800 crore, relates to the provision of Medium Energy Radars (MPR) ‘Arudhra’ for the Indian Air Power. The second one contract, at an total value of approx. Rs 950 crore, pertains to 129 DR-118 Radar Caution Receivers (RWR).”
The inductions will strengthen the surveillance, detection, monitoring & digital conflict features of the power, IAF stated. BEL is a defence PSU concerned basically in production defence electronics.
Each tasks are beneath Purchase Indian – IDMM (Indigenously Designed Advanced and Manufactured) class. Those will assist to reach self-reliance in defence production.
As in keeping with the IAF the Arudhra radar has been indigenously designed and advanced by means of Defence Analysis and Construction Organisation (DRDO) and can be manufactured by means of BEL. Its a success trials have already been performed by means of the Indian Air Power. “This is a 4D multi-function phased array radar with digital steerage in each azimuth and elevation for surveillance, detection and monitoring of aerial goals. The device may have goal id in line with interrogations from co-located Id Good friend or Foe device.” added the IAF.
Elaborating at the Radar Caution Receivers (DR-118) the Air Power added that it’ll “significantly strengthen the Digital Battle (EW) features of Su-30 MKI plane. Majority of sub-assemblies and portions can be sourced from indigenous producers.”
The tasks will act as a catalyst for construction of producing capacity within the business ecosystem.
Consistent with the IAF, the tasks will spice up and inspire energetic participation of Indian Electronics and related industries, together with MSMEs. Additionally, it’ll generate employment of approx. two lakh man-days over a length of 3 and part years.
