  • ‘Too Busy With Bullet Train, People Left To Die’: Sanjay Raut Slams Railways Min Over Bandra Stampede |

Mumbai Stampede: Following the stampede at Mumbai’s Bandra station, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday slammed Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw over the incident, claiming that he was too busy with the bullet train project while passengers in Mumbai were being ignored.

The stampede incident happened on Sunday when nine people sustained injuries. Two of the injured were in a critical condition. The stampede took place after a rush to board a Gorakhpur-bound train at the Bandra Terminus in Mumbai on Sunday morning, as per officials.

Speaking to reporters, Raut said, “Mumbai city gives maximum revenue to the Union government. Compared to it, we hardly get any facilities here for passengers.” “The railway minister is too involved with the bullet train project, and people are left to die because of the poor infrastructure as the railway minister is disconnected with their problems,” he asserted.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, aimed at significantly reducing the travel time between the two cities, is currently under construction. Continuing his attack on Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Shiv Sena (UBT) MP said that the railway minister is always presented as highly educated and his association with premium institutes like IITs is highlighted, but he has failed to solve problems of the common people who are dependent on the railways for travel, Raut claimed.

“Mumbai City not only gives maximum revenue but has the highest number of suburban passengers. However, the railway minister has not taken any steps to solve the problems,” the Rajya Sabha member charged.

Raut also lashed out at the Narendra Modi-led NDA government at the Center over some of the railway accidents in the country during its tenure. “Since the third term of this new Union government has commenced, at least 25 major railway accidents have taken place,” he claimed. “What solution did the government provide to address them?” Raut asked. Who is responsible for so many people getting injured (referring to the stampede at Bandra station)? Is there not an onus on the railway minister? he sought to know.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray trained his guns on the Railways Minister over the incident and raised questions on the minister’s ability to manage railway safety. “Wish the reel minister was a rail minister for once. The incident at Bandra only reflects how incapable the current Railways Minister is. The BJP has made Ashwini Vaishnav ji a Prabhari for BJP Maharashtra for elections, but every week there are some incidents and accidents that occur with the railways. It is such a shame that our country has been forced under such incapable ministers,” he said.

  • India To Become Next Chip Manufacturing Hub: Ashwini Vaishnaw | Economy News

New Delhi: Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that India is moving towards becoming the next semiconductor hub for the world as big investment is happening in this sector in the country.

Minister Viashnaw referred to a recent roundtable in New York between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and top tech CEOs and said that in the discussion three top executives had said they had not seen this kind of enthusiasm for any country in the last 35 to 40 years.

The Central government has cleared five semiconductor manufacturing proposals, with a total combined investment nearing Rs 1.52 lakh crore. The Union Minister further said Micron Technology will roll out the first made-in-India chips by early 2025. The construction work of the CG power semiconductor facility is going on. And in Tata’s ATMP facility in Assam, construction work is going on very well, he said.

Chips manufactured in the industry are used in medical instruments, mobile phones, laptops, cars, trucks, trains, televisions and practically every device.

All the initiatives taken so far, whether it is the Digital India Mission or the telecom mission, have brought technology into the hands of common citizens. According to the reports, India’s semiconductor-related market will reach 64 billion dollars in 2026, nearly triple the size in 2019.

Towards achieving this goal, the ‘Semicon India’ initiative allows financial support for front-end fabrication units, sensors, display manufacturing, display fabs, semiconductor packaging and compound semiconductors.

As per the experts, “by expanding production capabilities, the country is poised to become a major player in the semiconductor sector. National initiatives, such as the Semicon India Programme and the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), are focused on capturing a significant share of the global market, driving innovation, and stimulating economic growth through job creation and technological advancement.”

  • Netizens Slam Ola’s Bhavish Over Poor E-scooter Quality As He Shows Battery Cell To Union Minister Vaishnaw | Economy News

New Delhi: As Bhavish Aggarwal met Union Railways and Electronics and IT Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, on Thursday to show an indigenously-made lithium battery cell, netizens slammed Ola Electric scooters’ quality, saying these EV cells “need to be tested according to international standards”. Ola Electric has announced the integration of its battery cells in its own vehicles, starting Q1 FY26.

An X user posted that “our business needs to be quality-wise accurate globally”. “Working on different businesses at once without looking at quality concerns will affect Ola’s footprint in the domestic market. Specifically talking about Ola two-wheelers. He (Bhavish) should take it seriously,” he posted.

Another EV user posted on X: “I am using an e-vehicle scooter and its battery is deteriorating in a year’s use.” “Indian products should establish a benchmark so that people around the world find made in India products trustworthy,” he said.

The Ola Electric cell is currently under trial production at its Gigafactory. The company recently showcased the indigenously developed Bharat 4680 cell and battery pack. The cell claims to have a wider operating window (10-700C), a longer life with more than 1,000 charge cycles, and better fast-charging capabilities.

Meanwhile, another X user posted that our nomenclature of almost everything seems too self-obsessed or hyper-nationalist. “Ever heard about China cell or Tesla’s America cell? It frankly shows that one considers to have over-achieved something, and it’s not a usual part of a country’s technological prowess,” the user commented.

Recently, after the shocking Ola Electric showroom fire incident in Karnataka, the company’s social media platforms were flooded with complaints about its EV scooters, as several customers raised serious concerns about product quality and service. Ola Electric users had complaints ranging from faulty software, bad service quality and poor response from the company when raised.

As per the latest reports, Ola Electric receives around 80,000 complaints monthly, overwhelming its service centres. On peak days, complaints rise to 6,000-7,000, resulting in long wait times, overburdened staff and growing customer dissatisfaction.

  • People With Unconfirmed Train Tickets To Be Deboarded Forcefully By RPF? Congress Slams Indian Railways Minister | Railways News

Lately, social media has been flooded with videos of people travelling in overcrowded sleepers and 3rd AC coaches. Those who are acquainted with train travel in India know that while people with waitlisted or general tickets are allowed to travel in sleeper classes, their entry was not allowed in the 3rd AC. However, now even 2nd AC premium seats are not spared and waitlisted people are seen travelling in the coach. The situation has become so grim that those with confirmed seats faced difficulty in getting or using their berths. People who faced difficulty despite paying for 3rd or 2nd AC raised the issue on social media. The condition is worse in sleeper and general classes where people are seen travelling stuffed in toilets and walking bays, leaving no space for any movement. In 2016, then Railways minister Suresh Prabhu had dreamt of ensuring confirmed tickets to every passenger by 2020. Four years later from the said deadline, even those with confirmed tickets are struggling to get their berths in 2024.

When the issue was brought to the notice of Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, he directed the authorities to take suitable steps to curb the entry of passengers with unconfirmed tickets in reserved coaches. The Zonal railways were directed to launch drives involving the Railway Protection Force and the Government Railway Police Force to ensure only passengers with confirmed tickets travelled in the reserved coaches. While the Indian Railways runs multiple special and clone trains to mitigate seasonal rush, the overcrowding of trains has become a new normal due to multiple reasons.

Sir Train No. 15120 from dehradun to Banaras. Coach no M1 (3rd AC)
This is the condition of third AC what will be the condition in sleeper coach can you imagine? Please take action on this with immediate effect. Feeling no use of taking reservation tkt. @RailMinIndia @NWRailways pic.twitter.com/19WEWBtkCZ
    — Rajat Dadhich (@rajatsharmararo) June 14, 2024

However, this did not go well with the Congress party. “These unreserved people who enter the reserved compartment do not travel by in the toilet on their own will. The government has converted sleeper and second-class coaches into AC coaches. People do not have enough money to travel in AC. Along with this, the number of passenger trains has also been reduced. Don’t use force on people and instead correct your mistake,” said Congress to Vaishnaw.

    — M.M. Dhera(Attorney at Law) (@AdvocateDhera) May 30, 2024

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also posed serious questions to the Railways and the government. “Why has travelling by train in the normal Sleeper Class become very expensive? Why has the number of Sleeper Coaches been reduced? Last year 2.7 crore people had to cancel their tickets due to acute shortage of seats – a direct result of the Modi government’s policy of reducing the number of coaches,” said Kharge.

    — Mallikarjun Kharge (@kharge) June 18, 2024

Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared that the number of trains needs to increase by 3,000 every day to accommodate waitlisted passengers. However, that would be possible only by 2032 when the railways would be able to upgrade their infrastructure and put extra lines on their map.

So till then, if you are travelling on a train with an unconfirmed ticket, then you might get deboarded by the security officials.

  • Ashwini Vaishnaw Launches India's Fastest And Indigenously Designed Router In Bengaluru |

New Delhi: In a significant stride towards technological independence and innovation, Union Minister for Communications, Electronics and Information Technology and Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw launched India's fastest and indigenously designed IP/MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) router in Bengaluru on Saturday.

MPLS is a routing technique in telecommunications networks that directs data from one node to the next, based on labels rather than network addresses. The project is spearheaded by the collaboration of the government's Department of Telecom, CDOT and Nivetti. It marks a momentous achievement in the nation's journey towards becoming a major product and manufacturing hub in the global tech landscape. Vaishnaw said, “It is matter of pride for us that indigenously developed and made in India router, a secure router, a core routers of capacity 2.4 tbps has been developed and launched today. This is a core router, which is secure and which can actually provide very important functions in our entire Prime Minister's vision of Digital India.” (Also Read: Sam Altman Finally Returns To OpenAI Board)

“As you know, networking is key to entire Digital India efforts. And within networking routers, a core router like this is very, very important. So, I'm so glad that this kind of complex equipment has been designed in India developed in India and made in India,” the minister said.

The minister further said, “Over the past decade, India has laid down the foundational stones of technological advancement and innovation, setting the stage for significant development in the coming years.

The launch of the 2.4 terabits per second (tbps) router is seen not only as a testament to the country's growing capabilities in the tech domain but also as a pivotal moment that aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for digital India – a vision that emphasizes scaling up technological developments and fostering an environment ripe for manufacturing and innovation.”

“And the coming five years will be the journey when lots of these foundations will see totally new structures built up them for the country, for the people and for technology,” the Minister added.

Minister Vaishnaw highlighted the transformative shift in manufacturing paradigms, from traditional mechanical processes to ones deeply intertwined with software, innovation, and intellectual prowess.

He said, “We are a good service nation and will continue to be that. We will continue to grow on the services. In parallel, we make our efforts to become a product nation and a manufacturing nation. That's the focus that's why I' ve come here today. I will also be going to Applied Materials where the equipments which go into manufacturing semiconductors, they will be manufactured and designed in India.”

He further said, “Today, manufacturing is no longer the old manufacturing where it was practically a mechanical kind of activity, where you go to fix cut things in a particular size. Today's manufacturing is a manufacturing where there is lots and lots of software in it, lots and lots of innovation in it, lots and lots of combination of brain power in the hardware which is today's manufacturing.”

“Having a very strong base of software and having very significantly large design capabilities make us absolutely at a takeoff point where we can become a major product nation in the world,” Minister said.

It is pertinent to note that the Nivetti router, capable of handling 2.4 tbps data, represents a leap in networking technology, promising to bolster India's digital infrastructure and support the ever-growing demand for high-speed data processing and transmission.

This achievement is a direct result of the government's concerted efforts to create an enabling environment for innovators through policy measures, financial incentives, and a regulatory framework designed to eliminate obstacles and encourage development.

Reflecting on the global tradition of nurturing innovation through supportive policies, Minister Vaishnaw reiterated the government's commitment to enhancing market opportunities, boosting exports, and streamlining regulations to aid innovators.

The initiatives introduced under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, including design-linked innovation, production-linked incentives (PLI) and a variety of startup-friendly schemes, are set to be scaled up significantly, aiming at propelling India to the forefront of global innovation and product development.

  • Google Agrees To Reinstate Delisted Indian Apps On Play Store After Govt Intervention |

New Delhi: Google has agreed to reinstate all the delisted apps of Indian companies on its Play Store after government intervention facilitated dialogue to resolve a dispute over service fee payments.

Telecom and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who brought Google and the startups to the negotiating table, stated that the US tech giant has been supporting India's technology development journey.

“Google and the startup community have met with us, and we have had very constructive discussions… Google has agreed to list all the apps,” he said. On Friday, Google removed apps from a dozen developers, including popular ones by Matrimony.Com and the job search app Naukri, for non-compliance with its in-app payment guidelines.

As the government strongly objected to the removal, calling it unacceptable, Google began restoring some apps on Saturday, provided they agreed to comply with its guideline to pay a fee of 11-25 percent on in-app payments or conduct financial transactions outside of the app. (Also Read: Lava Blaze Curve 5G With Curved Display Launched In India At Rs 17,999; Check Price, Specs)

Vaishnaw and Minister of State for Information and Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar held multiple rounds of discussions with Google and the app owners on Monday in an attempt to find a solution to the crisis, which some labeled as a dark day for the internet.

On Tuesday, Vaishnaw announced that Google has agreed to restore the status from Friday morning, i.e., pre-delisting. “We believe Google and the startup community will be able to come to a long-term solution in the coming months,” he said, indicating that the two sides will now sit down and resolve the issue of the levy of service charges.

India is the world's largest consumer internet market for tech giants like Meta and Google. With the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government effectively using its geopolitical clout, they cannot afford to ignore the Indian market or act aggressively towards it.

A day after Google delisted the apps, Vaishnaw revealed the government's stance in an interview with PTI when he said the removal was unacceptable and that “startups will get the protection they need.”

The government subsequently called for a meeting on Monday to resolve the issue. At the heart of the problem is Google's in-app fee. While Google claims the fees help develop and promote the Android and Play Store ecosystem, startups argue that the tech giant is forcing them to use its payment system and pay a fee, failing which they are being offloaded by the Play Store. (Also Read: Apple Launches Refreshed MacBook Air Models With M3 Chipset In India; Check Price, Features)

The Competition Commission of India had previously ordered Google not to mandatorily enforce an earlier system of charging 15-30 percent. Google then imposed a fee of 11-26 percent on in-app payments. It removed the apps that weren't paying the fee after the Supreme Court did not provide interim relief to the companies behind these apps in their battle against the search giant's platform fees.

While removing the apps, Google stated on Friday that some Indian companies had chosen not to pay for the “immense value they receive on Google Play.”Among the worst affected by the removals is Matrimony.Com, which has seen more than 140 of its apps being dropped from the Play Store. Other removed apps included Balaji Telefilms' Altt (formerly ALTBalaji), audio platform Kuku FM, dating service Quack Quack, and Truly Madly.

Info Edge saw its job search app Naukri and real estate search app 99acres removed, but they were back the next day when it moved to Google's consumption model, where any payment made is conducted outside of the app.

Google had briefly removed the popular payments app Paytm from its Play Store in 2020, citing policy violations. This led to widespread industry outcry, with startups joining hands to mount legal challenges against the tech giant. They even joined forces to launch their own app store.
