In a stunning display of cricket underdog spirit, Zimbabwe has once again toppled the mighty Australia in the T20 World Cup 2026, marking their third World Cup triumph over the Baggy Greens. This latest 23-run victory in Colombo on February 13 not only shocked fans but also etched Zimbabwe’s name deeper into cricket folklore as they now boast five total wins against Australia across formats.

The match in Colombo saw Zimbabwe post a competitive total, powered by Brian Bennett’s unbeaten 64, alongside brisk 35s from Tadiwanashe Marumani and Ryan Burl. Australia, chasing, crumbled to 146 all out in 19.3 overs, with Blessing Muzarabani’s four-wicket haul proving decisive. Matt Renshaw’s 65 was the lone resistance, but Glenn Maxwell’s 31 couldn’t bridge the gap.

Rewinding to 1983 One-Day World Cup in Nottingham, Zimbabwe defended 239/6, where Duncan Fletcher’s unbeaten 69 set the tone. Australia stuttered to 226/7, with Fletcher snaring 4/42. Kepler Wessels’ 76 and Rod Marsh’s 50 went in vain.

Fast forward to 2007 T20 World Cup in Cape Town, Zimbabwe restricted Australia to 138/9, thanks to Elton Chigumbura’s 3/16. Brendan Taylor’s unbeaten 60 sealed a five-wicket win in 19.5 overs.

These victories highlight Zimbabwe’s knack for giant-killing, especially in World Cups, proving that on their day, they can humble any powerhouse.
