The 2026 FIFA World Cup is just months away, and anticipation is building. The tournament will kick off on June 11, 2026, at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, a historic venue. This World Cup is particularly notable as it will expand to include 48 teams and be hosted by three countries: Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

As the world’s best football players prepare to compete, FIFA is actively recruiting volunteers, seeking around 65,000 individuals to support the event behind the scenes.

To become a volunteer for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, start by registering on the official FIFA Volunteer Community website. This is the first step before you can submit your application.

Following registration, you’ll need to complete an application form, indicating your preferred host city, and highlighting your skills and availability. You will also need to pass a short online test. This test is designed to assess your enthusiasm for the tournament and explain why you would be a great fit for the volunteer team. Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to an interview, which can be in-person or group-based, in the city of their choosing, followed by a background check. Successful candidates will be placed in key areas, such as stadium management, media coordination, fan services, or logistics, and will receive relevant training before the tournament.

To be eligible for the program, you must be at least 18 years old at the time of application (no upper age limit applies). You also need to be available to work at least eight shifts during the tournament, some of which will be before the official start date. A good understanding of English is a must-have. Additional language skills are beneficial, with Spanish useful for roles in Mexico and Canadian French an advantage for roles in Canada. You must also be legally able to volunteer in the host country.

While FIFA doesn’t cover travel, accommodation, or visa costs, previous volunteer experience isn’t required. This represents a fantastic chance for first-timers to gain experience on a global football stage.

The FIFA World Cup is a celebration of the spirit of football. Volunteers are the driving force, providing a seamless experience for everyone. This is a chance for football fans to be part of the action, supporting one of the most-watched sporting events in history.
