In a breathtaking display of power-hitting at Wankhede Stadium, West Indies obliterated Zimbabwe by 107 runs in the T20 World Cup 2026 on Monday. Opting to bat first, the Caribbean side posted a colossal 254 for 6 in just 20 overs, rewriting the record books in the process.

Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell unleashed mayhem with their explosive innings. Hetmyer blazed 85 off 34 balls, peppering the boundary with 7 fours and 7 sixes. This knock propelled him to equal Nicholas Pooran’s record for the most sixes in a single T20 World Cup edition, with 17 maximums now to his name.

Powell complemented the assault with 59 off 35 balls, featuring 4 fours and 4 sixes. Sherfane Rutherford chipped in with an unbeaten 31 off 13 deliveries. The team’s total of 19 sixes in the innings matched the T20 World Cup record jointly held by Netherlands against Ireland in 2014.

This score not only became West Indies’ highest in T20 World Cup history but also the biggest ever by any team against Zimbabwe in T20Is, surpassing India’s 234 for 2 from 2024. West Indies joined Zimbabwe in achieving 250-plus totals three times in T20Is, trailing only India’s four such feats.

Zimbabwe’s chase crumbled spectacularly, collapsing to a paltry total as West Indies’ bowlers sealed a comprehensive victory. Hetmyer’s heroics and the team’s relentless aggression have set the tone for their campaign, sending a clear message to rivals in the tournament.
