Mumbai erupted in cheers as West Indies delivered a commanding performance against England in the T20 World Cup 2026 at Wankhede Stadium. The Caribbean side secured their second consecutive victory, triumphing by 30 runs and claiming the top spot in Group C with a net run rate of +1.625.

Despite losing the toss and being put in to bat, West Indies posted a formidable 196 for 6 in their 20 overs. Early trouble struck with both openers dismissed for just 8 runs, but Shimron Hetmyer steadied the ship alongside Roston Chase, forging a crucial 47-run stand off 28 balls. Hetmyer fell for 23 off 12, yet the momentum shifted dramatically.

Sherfane Rutherford emerged as the hero, remaining unbeaten on a blistering 76 from 29 balls, laced with 7 sixes and 2 fours. He partnered with Rovman Powell for 51 runs and then with Jason Holder for 61 more, the latter smashing 33 off 17 with 5 boundaries before departing. England’s Jamie Overton and Adil Rashid claimed 2 wickets each, with Jofra Archer and Sam Curran taking one apiece.

Chasing 197, England crumbled to 166 all out in 19 overs. Openers Phil Salt and Jos Buttler started briskly with 38 runs in 3.2 overs, Salt blasting 30 off 14. Buttler added 21 and Jacob Bethell 33, but at 90 for 4, the chase faltered. Sam Curran fought valiantly with an unbeaten 43 off 26, including 2 sixes and 3 fours, alongside Harry Brook’s 17, but it wasn’t enough.

West Indies’ bowlers shone bright, led by Gudakesh Motie’s haul of 3 wickets. Roston Chase grabbed 2, while Akeal Hosein, Romario Shepherd, and Shamar Joseph each picked one. This win not only boosts West Indies’ campaign but sends a strong message in the tournament’s competitive Group C.
