The Guyana Amazon Warriors triumphed over Antigua and Barbuda Falcons by 83 runs in a key CPL 2025 encounter. A remarkable display by a 46-year-old spinner propelled Guyana to a convincing victory. This experienced bowler dismantled the Falcons’ batting lineup, taking down half their team in a mere 24 balls.
Batting first, the Amazon Warriors posted a formidable total of 211 runs for the loss of three wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Shai Hope made a strong contribution with 82 runs off 54 balls, featuring six boundaries and five sixes. Shimron Hetmyer played a rapid innings, scoring 65 runs not out from only 26 balls, including five fours and five sixes. Romario Shepherd added valuable runs, scoring 25 not out off just 8 balls, with two fours and two sixes.
The Antigua and Barbuda Falcons faltered in their chase, getting all out for 128 runs. Amazon Warriors’ captain, Imran Tahir, led the bowling attack, taking 5 wickets for 21 runs in 4 overs, including one maiden over. Tahir’s scalps included Shakib Al Hasan, Imad Wasim, Usama Mir, Shammar Springer, and Obed McCoy. This impressive performance marked his fourth 5-wicket haul in T20 cricket.
The Falcons’ batting performance was disappointing, with Karima Gore’s 31 runs being the highest score for the team. Bevon Jacobs made 26 runs, while Fabian Allen scored 22. The rest of the batsmen struggled to make an impact. Besides Imran Tahir’s outstanding spell, Romario Shepherd and Dwaine Pretorius each picked up two wickets for Guyana, while Gudakesh Motie secured one wicket.
This victory represents the Amazon Warriors’ second consecutive win in the ongoing season. They previously defeated St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots and now sit in second place on the points table with 4 points, while Antigua leads the table with 5 points.
