Chamoli district on July 28 began the district‑level selection for the "Chief Minister Udiyaman Player Advancement Scholarship". The initiative targets talented boys and girls aged eight to fourteen and promises a monthly stipend of INR 1,500 per selected candidate. District magistrate Vivek Prakash inaugurated the trials at the Gopeshwar Sports Stadium, signaling the state’s commitment to nurture emerging sports talent.
Under the scheme, 25 boys and 25 girls will be chosen from each age bracket, totaling 150 boys and 150 girls across the district. The financial aid is intended to cover basic training expenses and motivate athletes to pursue higher‑level competition.
The first day focused on the 8‑9 year age group, where 102 children—53 boys and 49 girls—participated in a physical fitness test. Organisers emphasized fairness and transparency throughout the assessment process.
