Colombo buzzed with electric energy as Pakistan’s emerging off-spinner Usman Tariq described facing India in the Men’s T20 World Cup as a ‘dream come true.’ In a thrilling Group A clash at R Premadasa Stadium, Tariq claimed 1 wicket for 24 runs, showcasing his skill on a tricky surface.
India posted a challenging 175/7 in 20 overs, powered by Ishan Kishan’s explosive 77 off 40 balls. Pakistan’s spinners dominated, bowling 18 of the 20 overs and keeping the scoring rate in check. Fellow spinner Sam Ayub starred with 3/25, setting up an intriguing chase.
Tariq’s variations and clever release points turned heads, especially in the middle overs where he maintained tight control. Speaking to broadcasters during the mid-innings break, he said, ‘India-Pakistan matches are massive. The energy was incredible – it felt like a dream.’
Adapting to the slow pitch came naturally, thanks to his Caribbean Premier League experience. ‘I’ve bowled on similar tracks in CPL,’ Tariq explained. ‘I focused on disrupting their batters’ momentum, and now we’re in a good position.’
Confidence radiated from the young spinner as he backed Pakistan’s batting firepower. ‘Our batters have tremendous momentum and clear intent. We’re mentally sharp and ready to chase this down,’ he asserted.
India leads Group A after emphatic wins over USA (29 runs) and Namibia (93 runs), aiming for a hat-trick of victories to storm into Super 8s. Pakistan, despite two wins, sits third and needs this triumph to boost their standings. The stage is set for another chapter in one of cricket’s fiercest rivalries.
