In a dominant display at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the United States pulled off a stunning 93-run victory over the Netherlands in the 21st match of the T20 World Cup 2026. This emphatic win marked the USA’s first points in the tournament, propelling them to third place on the Group A points table.
Opting to bowl first after losing the toss, Netherlands watched helplessly as USA’s batters unleashed havoc. The innings kicked off with a shaky start, losing Shayn Jahangir for 20 at 27 runs. But captain Monank Patel steadied the ship with a brisk 36 off 22 balls, featuring four boundaries, in a 55-run stand with Saiteja Mukkamalla off 37 deliveries.
Mukkamalla emerged as the star, crafting a masterful 79 off 51 balls laced with five fours and four sixes. He partnered with Sanjay Krishnamurthi for 23 runs and then with Shubham Ranjane for 54, pushing the score to a formidable 196 for six. Ranjane remained not out on 48 from 24 balls, smashing two sixes and three fours.
Bas de Leede was the standout bowler for Netherlands, claiming 3-37, with Logan van Beek, Kyle Klein, and Fred Klaassen picking up one wicket each.
Chasing 197, Netherlands collapsed disastrously to 103 all out in 15.5 overs. Michael Levitt fell early for 3 at 9 runs, and despite a 32-run partnership between Bas de Leede and Max O’Dowd, the innings unraveled. O’Dowd made 23 off 17 with two boundaries before departing.
Scott Edwards contributed 20 off 14, and Reolof van der Merwe added 10, but it was USA’s bowlers who ran riot. Harmeet Singh led the charge with a sensational 4-wicket haul, supported by Shadley van Schalkwyk’s 3 wickets, Mohammad Mohsin’s 2, and Nostush Kenjige’s 1. This victory sends a strong message from the USA in the tournament.
