India’s Under-19 team has a 2-0 lead against Australia Under-19 in the 3-match ODI series, setting the stage for a series sweep. A key highlight is Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who could break a record that has been held by Pakistan for 24 years. The third youth ODI of the tour offers a final chance for Suryavanshi to eclipse the Pakistani record.
The record relates to the youngest batsman to score a century in Australia. Pakistan’s Hasan Raza, an opener aged 19, set this record in December 1997. Suryavanshi now has a chance to surpass this.
Suryavanshi is the second youngest to score a century in Under-19 ODIs, having accomplished this at 14 years old. The world record is held by New Zealand’s Thomas Zohrab, who scored a century in an Under-19 ODI at the age of 11 years and 361 days. The focus is on the Australian record, where Suryavanshi has the opportunity to achieve the feat.
Hasan Raza, like Suryavanshi, was an opening batsman who scored an unbeaten 100 runs in Melbourne, becoming the youngest century scorer in Australia. If Suryavanshi, also an opener, can score a century in the third ODI against Australia Under-19, he will break the Pakistani record.
Suryavanshi has scored 108 runs in the previous two ODIs against Australia Under-19, with an average of 54 and a strike rate of 120. He scored 70 runs in the second ODI.
