As South Africa gears up to face New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, cricket fans are buzzing with excitement. Historically, the Proteas have dominated the Kiwis in T20 cricket, winning all five World Cup encounters. But beyond team records, individual brilliance has shone through in these high-stakes battles.

In the shortest format, certain batsmen have left an indelible mark in South Africa-New Zealand T20 matchups. Leading the pack is New Zealand’s Martin Guptill, who has amassed 424 runs in 10 innings against the Proteas at a blistering strike rate of 132. His highlight? A century and two fifties that showcased his explosive opening prowess.

Not far behind is South Africa’s legendary AB de Villiers, Mr. 360 himself. In 11 outings, ABD piled up 270 runs at a strike rate of 119, including a memorable half-century that turned games on their head.

Fellow Protea JP Duminy follows closely with 256 runs in eight matches, striking at 162. His top score of 86 and a fifty underline his reliability in the middle order against Kiwi bowlers.

New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum, the dynamic captain, occupies fourth spot with 248 runs from 12 innings at 112 strike rate. Though he managed just one fifty, his aggressive style defined many chases.

Rounding out the top five is Hashim Amla, who scored 219 runs in seven matches at 123 strike rate, proving his class even in T20s.

With this semi-final looming, these records add extra intrigue. Will history repeat, or can New Zealand finally break the jinx? Fans can’t wait to find out.
