In a thrilling display of power-hitting, India’s young batting sensation Tilak Varma silenced his critics with a blistering unbeaten 44 off just 16 balls against Zimbabwe in the T20 World Cup. Batting at number six instead of his usual third position, the left-hander smashed four sixes and three fours, propelling India to a massive 256.
This explosive knock came at a crucial time for Varma, who had faced backlash for slow scoring in earlier matches of the 2026 T20 World Cup. His aggressive approach not only boosted India’s total but also restored his confidence and the team’s faith in him.
Post-match, Varma shared his mindset. ‘When openers provide a solid start, it instills confidence down the order. Sanju Samson set the tone brilliantly, and everyone followed suit. Even after losing three or four wickets in the powerplay, we wanted to keep attacking,’ he said.
He revealed the team’s preparation: ‘Right before the game, we discussed playing with a positive mindset. We reviewed our T20 style from last year and watched old videos to build belief. As a unit, we decided to go all out.’
On his batting position flexibility, Varma added, ‘I’m always ready for whatever the team needs. I’ve done this role for Mumbai Indians and in some India games too. My aim is to hit sixes and fours right after wickets fall.’
Looking ahead, the youngster declared, ‘We’ve played the same brand of cricket as last year, and we’ll carry that intent into the next game. Our goal is to breach 250 again in upcoming matches.’
Varma’s performance has sparked excitement among fans, signaling India’s intent to dominate with fearless cricket in the tournament.
