Udhayanidhi Stalin, the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, celebrated the remarkable achievements of Tamil Nadu chess players D Gukesh, Aravindh Chithambaram, and R Praggnanandhaa in international chess tournaments. Gukesh secured third place in the Norway Chess Tournament, while Chithambaram and Praggnanandhaa showcased their talent at the Stepan Avagyan Memorial Chess Tournament. Chithambaram’s victory in the latter has propelled him into the top 10 of the FIDE rankings. The state’s Elite Scheme for sportspersons provides crucial financial backing.
