Sri Lanka’s T20I campaign in Pakistan is set to commence with a reshuffled squad due to unfortunate player illnesses. Captain Charith Asalanka and fast bowler Asitha Fernando have been ruled out of the upcoming tri-series, which also includes Zimbabwe. Both players are returning to Sri Lanka for immediate medical attention and recuperation. Sri Lanka Cricket stated that this is a proactive decision to safeguard their health and ensure a timely return to the field.

The leadership void left by Asalanka’s absence will be filled by former captain Dasun Shanaka, who has been appointed to lead the team in Pakistan. This move brings a wealth of experience to the helm. The squad also welcomes new talent with the addition of Pavan Rathnayake, a batter who has already earned an ODI cap. This tournament is a significant stepping stone for the team, aiming to build momentum and refine strategies in the lead-up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
