In a stunning turn of events at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, South Africa shattered India’s unbeaten streak in the T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 stage. The Proteas posted a formidable 187/7 before bundling out the hosts for just 111, securing a commanding 76-run victory on Sunday.

India, fresh off a flawless group stage, faced early turmoil chasing 188. Openers Ishan Kishan fell for a duck, Tilak Varma managed a solitary run, and Abhishek Sharma’s 15 off 12 ended via Marco Jansen. Captain Suryakumar Yadav’s 18 included two boundaries but couldn’t stem the collapse against Corbin Bosch.

Washington Sundar (11), Hardik Pandya (18 off 17), and Rinku Singh (0) followed suit, with Rinku’s mistimed shot landing straight in Tristan Stubbs’ hands off Keshav Maharaj. Arshdeep Singh scored 1, Jasprit Bumrah 0, leaving Shivam Dube unbeaten on 42 off 37 as India’s top scorer. Jansen’s 4/22 in 3.5 overs and Maharaj’s 3/24 dismantled the batting lineup.

Earlier, South Africa, electing to bat after winning the toss, lost Quinton de Kock (6, bowled by Bumrah), Aiden Markram (4, to Arshdeep), and Ryan Rickelton (7). Dewald Brevis (45 off 29) and David Miller (63 off 35, with 7 fours and 3 sixes) forged a crucial 97-run stand for the fourth wicket.

Tristan Stubbs’ unbeaten 44 off 24 sealed the innings at 187/7. Bumrah starred with 3/15 in 4 overs, Arshdeep taking 2. This defeat ends India’s group dominance, raising questions ahead in the Super 8s as South Africa reignites their campaign.
