Shubman Gill’s outstanding performance, with 650 runs in IPL 2025 and 754 runs in the England Test series, has raised questions about his role in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. The central question is whether he’ll be selected for the playing XI. Despite his impressive form, there’s a possibility he might not feature in the final lineup.
Mohammad Kaif has offered his insights on the potential team composition. He suggests that Gill may be included in the squad but might not make the playing XI. Kaif has emphasized the importance of maintaining the consistency of the current T20 batting order. His proposed playing XI includes Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Axar Patel, and Hardik Pandya.
Moreover, Kaif’s predicted playing XI includes Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, and Jasprit Bumrah, leaving out Gill, Rinku Singh, and Varun Chakravarthy. Nevertheless, Kaif stated that Gill might be a backup opener. The final decision regarding the playing XI and the inclusion of Gill will be announced on August 19 by Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar.
