New Indian Test captain Shubman Gill has shared his perspective on the captaincy of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Assuming leadership at 25, Gill follows Rohit Sharma’s departure from Test cricket ahead of the England tour. This change marks the beginning of a transitional phase for the Indian Test team, with a major test awaiting them during the upcoming five-match Test series in England in 2025.

Gill credited Virat Kohli for his proactive style, recalling Kohli’s approach of having multiple plans and ensuring the bowlers’ clarity, thus maintaining team vigilance. Gill noted Kohli’s constant engagement and adaptability on the field.

He described Rohit Sharma’s leadership as more composed, but strategically astute. According to Gill, Sharma’s game plans are often underpinned by a strategic intensity. Gill emphasized the clarity in Rohit’s communication. He added that any expressions of frustration or enthusiasm from Rohit were always received positively within the competitive framework.
