In a stunning upset, PV Sindhu was eliminated from the Hong Kong Open 2025 in the opening round of the women’s singles. Sindhu, representing India, lost to Line Christophersen of Denmark. Although Sindhu secured the first set with a score of 21-15, Christophersen staged a remarkable comeback, winning the next two sets 21-16 and 21-19 to secure the match. This defeat was unexpected, considering Sindhu’s past victories against Christophersen, including straight-set wins at both the All England Open and the World Tour Final. Christophersen’s change in tactics was key to her success in this match. Despite Sindhu’s early departure, other Indian players advanced in the tournament. Lakshya Sen, HS Prannoy, and Kiran George progressed to the round of 16 in the men’s singles. The leading Indian men’s doubles team, Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, also won their first-round match, moving to the next stage. PV Sindhu will now concentrate on the forthcoming China Masters, a BWF Super 750 event.
